... to burn the midnight oil tonight after recieving an email on why one of my states delegation voted for the Cap & Tax Energy bill and learning that the man I campaigned for had caved and voted with the liberals. here are the letters I wrote to both Repr. Dave Reichert and Adam Smith respectively. Representative Reichert, I voted for you in the last election. In fact I campaigned for you. I put a bumper sticker on my car for you. I spent several afternoons and evenings at the Republican call center in Puyallup contacting voters to get you elected instead of Darcy Burner. I did this because I expected you would be a conservative when it really matters. So when I found out a few minutes ago that you voted with the Liberals on this Energy bill which is based on Pseudo Science and will probably outsource over 2 Million jobs from America to China, Mexico, & India, I was to say the least severely dissappointed in you. You let me down, you let our country down. What is even worse is that you and only 7 other republicans could have voted the other way and stopped this nonsense bill. The stimulus package was bad enough. But I think this is worse. They added an ammendment at 3:00 AM this morning. I hear it was an additional 300 pages long. Did you read that? Do you know what those 300 pages contain? It could say "there will be a $2,000 tax placed on every burrito sold at Taco Bell because of the additional carbon in the atmosphere." Can you tell me you know there is no burrito tax in the bill which totals 1600 pages because you have read it and know for sure it doesn't? I am being ridiculous here to make a point. But I think it is ridiculous for any person who claims to be a conservative and votes yes on a bill like this especially when it is several phone books thick and you could not possibly know everything it contains. Just on that basis alone, I would expect any true conservative would vote no. I would really like hear why you did this. I would like it even more if you can tell me that you have a plan to defeat the bill when it comes back to you after the Senate gets through with it. But in the mean time I am asking myself why I went to the trouble to work so hard to help elect you. Regards, Representative Smith, How can you craft the best possible energy policy starting off with a bill that is 1600 pages long and is unfair to over half the states in our country? You voted on it just hours after a 300 page amendment was added to it. Beans produce greenhouse gasses when people eat them. Can you tell me if there are any carbon taxes in this bill directed at Mexican restaurants? I am being ridiculous because it is ridiculous for any sensible representative to vote on a bill that he hasn't read. This bill will cost millions of American Jobs and burden our citizens with higher energy costs as well as higher prices on everything from Milk and eggs to tennis shoes. On top of it all, this energy bill politicizes the issuing of carbon credits, punishing rural states and rewarding most of the states that voted Blue in the last presidential election. That is just wrong!! I agree with you that it is a good idea to promote research into alternative energy sources. I already use one alternative myself in my truck. But from what I have learned of this bill it is so laden with pork and so obsessed with Pseudo Science about Global warming that it will do a great deal more harm to our country than good. I also agree with many commentators that say this is absolutely the wrong time to burden our American Industrial Complex with new and obtuse regulations. That will have the effect of further dampening the economy and chasing manufacturing jobs overseas. Representative Smith, I would hope that you would look at both sides of an issue before making a decision like this and I urge you to change your vote. Open Question: Is there any place like this near San Francisco?

I'm looking for a town which meets any or all of these criteria: The tallest man-made object in town is somebody's jacked up truck. Wal-Mart shoppers are regarded as "uppity." KIds drive farm tractors to school. The gun and knife show is the social event of the year. People butcher livestock in their back yards. The bowling alleys have valet parking. The phrase "housing boom" means that somebody's meth lab blew up. People include such phrases as "buck pole", "restrictor plate", and "reloading press" in routine conversations (especially if they can use all three in the same sentence). ok about 3.5 years ago i gave up my home in a town to move and buy a house with my girlfreind. we talked about it alot in the begining and we found a house that had potentialy what i wanted. but it was high for me to do it own my own lke i was . so i made a deal with her that if we both worked and she paid at least 100.00 a week we would be ok. she agreed so i bought the house. so being fair and she agreed she was going to help pay for it i put her on the morgage i didnt have to but i was trying to be fair. then after a month she got in trouble with her job so i told her to quit and get her anytype of job that was closer.after 3 or more months of me nagging and me loosing my brand new truck cause i couldnt pay for both she finally gets a job and looses it in a week cause she failed a drug test .several more months go by and i finally get laid off of my job and was workng in the yard when i got hit with a tree breaking my leg so i quit pushing and used her help at home till i was able to move own my own again.then i started pushing her again to get a job cause my severence package was running out.so she finally got a job at a conveinence store and worked their for an hour and sold a beer to a minor and got busted buy sled.and instead of owning up to it and not selling another one she quits.now i got to pay her fine and pay her pti so she can keep her liscense so she can work.so now hear we are about a yer into this and her still no job.finally i get a job when i am able to hide the fact i got a broken leg i get a job pushing hospital beds.shes stil not workin but shes at home complaining about how much im workin.me and a friend finally pissed her off enough for her to leave one day lookin for a job and she came back with one im think cool its gonna get better now . wrong shes workin at belks for a month and she ends up pregnent her job told her she could work however she needed to and the doc said she was good.but she claims she so sick that she cant work no time at all but when i went fishing on a boat she went .shed always argue that she wanted to go somewhere or do something i didnt have the money for.she wouldnt do her community service and i though for a while i was gonna loose the money i put up for it and she was still gonna loose her liscence but after a year of it the officer just gave it to her .i go thru the 9 months of still doin it own my ownshe has the baby and is complainig for months my mom came stayed with for 3 months after he was born so i could work.then when mom had to go hme and she had to start watching him own her own it started again she claim she not gonna be a stay home mom but she aint haad a goo record for getting or keeping a job ,she said no to workin a shift opposite of me.and was always wanting to go go go.not help but go.and for the first year of his life she tried every day to get away always claiming she needed a break she got stung out on zanaxes and almost cost me a job calling and raising cain about crap.when the oppratunity came up for me to get a job that would actually allow her to stay home and take care of the house and my boy ,instead of helping me to prepare for the tes she keeps me up all night bithcin.now i work swing shift and a lot of overtime to make up for her just not being able to get a job.and she bitches and complains at me for workin too much and i dont give her enough break from her son and i dont give her money to go do what she want to do.in the past tree months she has gotten tore up on either beer or pills while i was at work one night ,she burned some of my personal belongings,broke my computer and is always on the phone. i know it is not easy to be a stay at home mom but is it not easyier than workin your butt off up to 77 hrs a week plus spending quality time with them taking her places at least three times a week and then letting her go to the store to buy stuff we dont need just to let her get out of the house maybe you get the point theirs still alot of things shes done that im not gonna keep goin i think you get the point do i have a right ot say i have had enough or am i just bein greedy like she says more

Open Question: GMC 1500 transmission problem?

I recently inherited my grandfathers '96 GMC 1500 ext. cab with a 5.7L V8 Vortec. Being only 15, I do not live with my parents (where the truck is) and don't have a lot of spending time with my truck and it had sat for about 6 months before anybody helped me get it running when it needed a fuel pump and battery. After we got it running, it had a slight bog when you pressed the gas after we had gotten it from the shop to replace the wiring harness in the steering column and we took it down the highway and it made a really harsh lurch like the transmission gears weren't meshing properly. I immediately pulled over and checked it out, checked transmission fluid levels, checked for small animals on the undercarriage :P, etc. Everything checked out. got back on the road again and it did it again! I learned to cope with it for a while till I could get back in town to have it checked out. I got to thinking last night and I wonder if it's not even a transmission problem (being we replaced it about 4K miles ago) and if it had been sitting for 6 months, some old fuel could've gotten into an injector and gummed it up and under heavy acceleration, fuel isn't being sprayed into the cylinder and it's causing some sort of stall in that cylinder and it's basically running on 7 cylinders. I also have a slight brake problem as well, when I push the pedal, it makes a noisy whoosh and goes almost to the floor before it grabs and then sort of shakes back and forth, I believe it could be warped rotors and/or air in the system. Any help would be greatly appreciated, thanks! more

They have decided to put the house on the market, but the struggle is starting to come on possesions... What would happen to items each owned prior to establishing a relationship? (His truck, her computer, furniture, ect.) What should happen to items aquired jointly after establishing a relationship? (house, electronics, ect.) What should happen to items financed soley by one party after establishing a relationship? (her car, his boat, his furniture - and by his or hers, i mean items financed in their name). What should happen to items aquired soley (paid off) by both parties after establishing a relationship? (electronics, games, rec. tables, ect.) And last but not least, wedding and engagement rings. I believe Iowa is a conditional gift state... So does she get all rings she paid for, and he gets all rings he paid for? How would you civily hash this all out? How would a lawyer/legal system hash this all out? Thanks! more

When I was a kid, I remember Hot Wheels made a collection where you could turn regular cars into monster trucks using the tools that they came with. Open Question: What is wrong with my truck? Engine seems to stall only when in Drive or Reverse?

The truck is fine until you put it into gear and then you try to go and it just dies. I dont know whats wrong because it does fine when in neutral or park. I can rev the motor up high RPM's and nothing happens. The truck is a '82 dodge ram with a 350 SB. Not sure the exact trans, but is the auto shifter. Open Question: My cars rear wheels are seized up... whats wrong?

Hey guys, just wanted to find out what the problem and potentially the cost of what i am facing. I was driving down the highway at about 75mph when suddenly, my speed starting decreasing, and i heard a lot crack.. as if something broke. I quickly pull to the side of the road. At this point, the car is still on. So i get out of the car to look under the car and i see nothing physically broken. So i try to drive off, hoping to get to the next exit. I put it into the 1st and try to pull off but the car stalls. I start the car and try again, and it stalls out again. Felt like the car couldn't move forward. In the end, i got the car towed. Now, the rear wheels are completely seized up... had to dragged it on and off the tow truck. The car is a Impreza AWD... and yes, i did hear some winding, friction noise, for a while now when i try to maintain a certain speed, prior to this happening. Any ideas? Differential? Yeah, it was towed on a bed... made sure i specified it was awd when i called the tow company. more

Open Question: 1991 Chevy Silverado has Brake Light issue?

I bought this truck on Consignment from a local business that used it mostly for Hauling. When I got it of course the Tow-hitch and all the goodies were gone but they left a Mess of wires. There were 2 Adapter Harnesses attached to the Original Harness and several Splices between them and the Separate Tail Light Assemblies. I decided since I don't see a need for a trailer in my Near Future to just remove the Adapters and wire it back to it's original State. It still behaves the way it did when I got it. That is, Brake Lights stay on all the time whether vehicle is running or completely off (Key out). But They are dimly lit almost like Daytime Running Brake lights. So of course this is a constant drain on the Battery. The only way I know to fight it is to disconnect the Negative batery Terminal when the Truck is not in use. I turn on the HeadLights and the dimly lit Brake Lights go out. At this point If I try to use Turn Signals, hit the Brakes, it doesn't matter...no lights in the rear do anything. If I turn headlights off Brake lights are dimly, both Turn Signals work, but no change to Brake Lights (still dimly lit) if I press the Brake with or without Turn Signals. The other key to this Mystery is coming out of the left Taillight wire assembly is a ground that was just hanging. I call it a Ground because it's Black, however if I apply Test Light to it the Test Light comes on. If I try Grounding it the Dimly lit Brake Lights become Crazy Bright but behave the same as far as Turn Signals come on but no change in brightness of lights if Brake are Applied. What do I do with this wire? Why do these Lights act this way? Any Help Please? more

A delivery truck travels 21 blocks north, 15 blocks west and 17 blocks south. What is its final displacement from the origin? Assume the blocks are equal length. I found the magnitude, which was 15.5 blocks, but it's also asking for the direction, in degrees. From what I drew, the vector of the total displacement should be in the second quadrant, so the sign should be negative, right? So I calculated: tan (theta) = Dy/Dx = 4/(-15) = -0.27 theta = -15.1 degree But that's wrong. If I measure the angle, I get 165 degree (so -165) and that is also wrong. Help! more

How do I go about emancipating myself? I'm 15 years old about to turn 16 in 6 months and im really interested in knowing how to emancipate myself. The reason im wanting this so badly is because for years i have went through verbal abuse from my grandmother and this home is not stable at all. Everyday i have to listen to a constant fight and my grandmother telling me im a worthless whore and never do anything and the truth is when my mom asks me to do something for her i do it right then and i never go "whoring" around as my grandmother says i don't even get to go to friends houses or leave the house that much unless im with a family member. She is also always trying to get me in trouble telling my mother im sneaking guys in the house when she is gone and always has guys on the mind i have to say my grandmother is very perverted always saying dirty commented towards me and putting me down it even got to the point i cant even have friends over due to her. And another this she never lets my mother raise us as her own she always gets in the way and every time we try to make my little brother listen she starts a big fight and i cant handle much more im being ignored all the time i have no one to talk to and when i do try to talk to my mother she gets ill with me and when i point that out she starts going on about how its a lie and get more ill with me and starts to yell. Everyone else in my family can tell you themselves their is NO love in this house at all and their is ALWAYS fighting going on and its not a stable home. I have to force myself to even get out of bed in the mornings just knowing whats in store for the day. Also i've tried so many times to talk my mother into letting me live with my grandmother (not the one ive talk you about in this) but she wont let me she tells me im her child no one else's and she wont let me get away from here and its starting to make me go crazy and when i start to show im getting depressed they threaten to send me off to clinics they even once told me they was going to send me to boot camp and this was coming from my father who never comes around much due to his truck driving job and he never calls me unless he wants something. I really don't know how much of this i can take i really just want to get away from here its even interfering in my school work and social live. I've got to the point i lose all my friends due to the fact im afraid to get close to anyone seeing how everyone here turns on each other and im always thinking about whats going to happen when i get home and cont focus on my school work. I worked at McDonald's for three years in high school. Now out of college, I can't find a job, so I went back to McDonald's. Nothing ever exciting happened there in three years. On my second day back this week, two guys started fighting in lobby. Like a 20 something year old kid vs. a 50 something year old guy. Like 7 cops showed up, an ambulance, and a fire truck. It all shut down the place for like an hour. What is there to fight about in McDonald's at 7:30 in the morning anyways? Eh? more

Open Question: Custom Restoration From old school to new?

I have a 1984 Dodge D350 Crew Cab. I want to build it into a high performance ride as well as a show truck. 2 things I want to do is change the tranny from a 4 speed granny low to a 5 or 6 speed. What trans will work without spending to much. The motor is a 318 and I want to pull 500 hp out of it. Any suggestions? And would hydraulic clutch swap be better for it? I want to keep it a one ton. P.S. if you tell me it cant be done I will prove it can. I just need the best suggestions to perform the job. more

my boyfriend is paying $505/month for an 06 nissan frontier. he just got a new job in the city and the commute sucks. he is about even on the loan, he owes just about what the truck is worth. a dealership here has a brand new 08 honda civic si for 19,000, and they are looking to get rid of it since the 2010 models are coming in. i figured thru a payment calculator he can probably get the payment well under $400/month and save a lot in gas, though he would essentially have to start over. he really loves the car, he says he intends on keeping it because it's fully loaded. should he just pay off and the truck and bite the bullet with gas prices? or try for the honda? more

Is it safe to ride a 2003 Yamaha VStar 650cc on a road trip up Interstate 5, from So Cal to Oregon? It is a 1000 mile trip up the I-5 from Southern California to Portland, OR. We are moving and will be driving our truck with a trailer full of our belongings, along with one of us riding the V Star. Experienced rider, all the appropriate gear...main question is: is this bike big enough to make the trip? It is a cruiser and comfy, in great condition...but, it is a 650cc and 2003. Does everybody out there in fantasy land understand the scope of the bill that the Democratic machines is slipping through Congress? When this thing passes, be ready to pay for an increase in: your personal home power bill your personal home heating bill water and sewer pumping require energy the garbage truck uses fuel big ouchy...schools and buses are going to need fuels to run, who'll pay for that? Every item in every store must be produced and shipped using energy. Every building that you frequent for pleasure, already is stressed to the hilt to air-condition itself.(movie theaters, malls, bars, etc) Hospitals use all kinds of energy...never mind we can use our new health care plan to pay for that. Our public busing is already paid for by those who do not ride, now they are going to need more tax dollars or their riders will be walking. Think of all of the industry that is going to die and how much higher unemployment is going to go. We need to stop blaming everything on Bush, he is history. Obama has a lot of good ideas but moderation is a good thing. Open your eyes, their is a lot more tax on this bill than simply an increase in your home electric bill. We are quickly moving in the direction of Rome. The people of this country need to start using some common sense and not pay attention to these trivial amounts that the machine is putting out. All of this smoke is coming from the same mouth that said that it would not raise taxes on the middle class. I love how they keep saying that the man who earns nothing is going to come out ahead.
