Open Question: Do you know why health care costs are skyrocketting?

I posted this question only a few minutes ago, but I forget to mention my opinion... Everyone gives the jab to someone or some institution, but there is one culprit that stays hidden behind the bushes. That would be the education system. Education? Yes, I'm blaming the education system that gives us the doctors and lawyers and CEOs. How do you expect a doctor to not hike up his rates when he has to take out approximately a half million dollars to attend medical school or dental school? And those are the low-level doctors. Think of the surgeons, who require about four years more of schooling. They will have taken at least half a million dollars, but probably more, by the time they graduated. And the tuition rates are not stagnant, they correlate with the rise of healthcare costs. For example, I'm going to law school next year, and the tuition for my school has jumped about 15-17% for next year alone. If I am more in debt, why would I not charge more? Lawyers and doctors go to school to make a good living, not to be indebted slaves. The problem is that it really does not cost 50,000 dollars to attend law school, and it definitely does not cost 100,000 dollars to attend medical school. These figures are justified on the basis that these students will rack up millions over the years, so they can afford to pay the hefty tuition. But where are they making the millions from? From customers - from me and you. Do we have a choice? Not really. If my tooth hurts enough, I'd rather get rid of my cell phone than cringe everytime I bite. But the schools do have a choice. Maybe the dean of the school doesn't need to earn 300,000 a year. I'm not sure exactly what they do will all the money they make off the students, but I think you can agree with me that it seems suspect. Education should not be this expensive.  more

Open Question: Doesn't child support services have access to????

how much money the non-custodial parent makes an hour? I have heard before that there is a database that the states attorney can look up the non-custodial parents hourly rate. I'm asking because the states attorney is trying to settle the amount owed for child support from my fiance to his ex before the next court date so that they don't have to go to court. Well they sent the papers to his lawyer to have him look over it and either agree or disagree and send back a new amount. Well the amount that they are thinking he makes is way more than he actually makes. By a $1 an hour and he just recently got a raise which was after they send this sheet out so when they sent it out it was $1.50 more an hour than he makes. So I'm wondering how if they have this database that shows how much he makes how can they be so off? The difference is like $65 a month which doesn't show like a lot but it is when you don't make that much to begin with. So of course his lawyer is writing up a new amount and sending his pay stubs with to prove he doesn't make that much. The amount they stated he makes hourly he has NEVER made. Even with his highest check that has overtime on it! But how could they be so wrong if they have access to how much he makes? They were never married I'm just posting it here because I thought maybe some of you would know. The support isn't set so he doesn't have to pay that amount they are just trying to get him agree to an amount so they don't have to show up to the court in a few weeks. So his lawyer is writing up a correct amount for him to pay. However that doesn't make sense either because he just started working at this place 3 months ago. So they would have to be going off what he made about 6 months ago before his hours got cut at his old job and he had to find a new one. I have the pay stubs. I know exactly what he makes. He hasn't given the states attorney anything since they haven't went to court yet since he got this new job. So they got the information somewhere else. I think you are wrong about the database. My cousin is a lawyer for the state and she said there is one and that it is usually up to date. They know who his current employer is so they got that information from somewhere and it wasn't from us or BM because she didn't know.  more

Open Question: Thank you for your support?

Today, it is up to all Mexicans to act with true patriotism, to make better use of our resources for the benefit of all Mexicans. Mexican men and women, good evening. I am addressing you at a key point in the history of our nation. Today, exercising the powers vested in me by the Constitution, I submitted a reform proposal to Congress to make the best use of the potential of our petroleum industry and strengthen Petróleos Mexicanos. Seventy years ago, General Lázaro Cárdenas' vision gave Mexico a future. Today, it is up to all Mexicans to act with true patriotism, to make better use of our resources for the benefit of all Mexicans. Mexico requires lofty goals and a vision of the future. First of all, I would like to make it quite clear that petroleum is and will continue to belong exclusively to Mexicans. PEMEX will not be privatized. Petroleum is an emblem of national sovereignty and has been vital to the development of Mexico. The initiative does not seek to privatize but rather to strengthen Petróleos Mexicanos. Mexico is losing ground vis-à-vis international competition. PEMEX has dropped to 11th position after being one of the world's leading oil companies. The causes are not only financial but mainly technological and operative. As a result, the country’s oil reserves are declining. At current production rates, we have proven reserves for just over nine years of production. Production has fallen and we now extract 300,000 fewer barrels than 3 years ago. This means that we have stopped receiving approximately $100 billion pesos annually, with which we could have quadrupled the Oportunidades Program budget, which supports the country’s poorest families. Despite being an oil-rich country, four out of every ten liters of the gasoline we use in our cars comes from other countries, since PEMEX lacks the necessary capacity to refine petroleum. The good news is that it is possible to increase the capacity to find new oil reserves, that it is possible to boost Petróleos Mexicanos’ production capacity for the country's benefit. Fortunately, we have the capacity and the potential to adjust our course. We have workers who have provided proof of their capacity, responsibility and patriotism. We have major inland seams and near the coasts but it is estimated that over half our potential reserves are in the deep waters of the Gulf of Mexico. We should take advantage of that wealth. That is why the aim of the reform is for Mexico to have oil, not only for the next few years, but for future generations of Mexicans and for oil wealth to produce more well-being for all. The initiative I sent Congress seeks to strengthen PEMEX by guaranteeing its status as a public firm at all times and guaranteeing Mexicans' exclusive ownership of oil and the company's control of exploration, drilling, exploitation and petrochemicals. The initiative does not seek to modify the Constitution. It will guarantee that the company continues to belong to all Mexicans. The principles proposed for reinforcing Petróleos Mexicanos are as follows: First. I propose to give Petróleos Mexicanos the financial and managerial autonomy it requires to cope with new challenges as well as possible. In particular, we wish to give PEMEX greater freedom as regards the handling of its budget and debt, so that it can re-invest any surplus in improving the firm. This will enable more resources to be allocated to new petroleum and gas exploration and production projects. Second, and in conjunction with the above, the aim is to create a new administrative structure for Petróleos Mexicanos and give the firm greater powers of decision, administration and hiring so that it can have access to state-of-the-art technology and increase its capacity to implement projects. In particular, the aim is to establish a special system for hiring, acquisitions and public works that is different from the rest of the government, which would allow the firm to be much more efficient. Third. In order not to have to import gasoline, diesel and other products from abroad, as we do now, in other words, in order to reduce our dependence on foreign countries for refined petroleum products and to reinforce our energy sovereignty, the aim is to allow PEMEX to contract firms specializing in the construction and running of new refineries for Petróleos Mexicanos. This will permit the creation of far more jobs, trigger regional development in places where new refineries are built, produce cleaner, environmentally friendly gasoline that will protect our families' health and totally eliminate Imports, in addition to reinforcing the national petrochemical industry. This will enable much cheaper fertilizer to be produced in the country for people in the countryside. I should point out that during this process, PEMEX will continue to own the country's oil and all the by-products obtained from it. Fourth. I propose to Fourth. I propose to nothing president barack O G.O.A.T has spoken wow i cant believe president fox got my speech  more

Open Question: Ridiculous question of power to a sub....?

Ok, this may be a little crazy, and pretty much useless, but.... Assuming the power coming straight out of a wall outlet is 120 volts, and you connected a 4 ohm subwoofer to it.... Ohm's law tells us that sub would receive about 3600 watts, theoretically... (Watts = Voltage squared, divided by Ohms) Standard household AC current is run at 60hz, slightly higher than what most SPL competitiors use, but still well within what we'd call "bass". If you managed to find a subwoofer that was actually rated to handle 3600+ watts continuously.... would that work? Would it actually play a continuous 60Hz tone, safely, and ridiculously loud?? A subwoofer with that kind of power handling isn't something I want to risk blowing up, even if I did have one, so I'm not going to actually try it myself. Does anyone know of someone doing this successfully? I did it once, with a garbage brand sub that was rated for like 100 or 200 watts.... it was old, and past its prime, and I just wanted to kill it in style. It was years and years ago, and I don't remember how it sounded, except that the voice coil lit up like a lightbulb, and poured smoke. A perfect ending for a $30 sub from K-mart.  more

Open Question: can you give a good reason to hate illegals?

i am a US Born Citizen, and i am a child of immigrants. i am also currently serving in the US Marine Corps. have illegals ever hurt you? all they do here in this country is try to start an honest living here in a country with so much to offer. do you think your ancestors should have been deported when they attacked this country that is now called "America"? when you look back, this country was made up of immigrants, the only real americans are the native indians. there are aprox 15-20million illegals as stated in the news out of the "350" million people in the whole united states. that small percentage wont hurt anyone. now, some will through things like, ooh, these Hispanics have a high crime rate, well so does everyone else. you dont see Hispanics on the news for serial killing or raping little girls, they are usually white Caucasians.. and, oh my god, ima be jobless because they are stealing our jobs. from experience i always see illegals working at mcdonalds or fast food places, and cheap factories. you dont have to worry about your child not becoming a doctor or lawyer. but with proper education and little to no ignorance, you will realize anyone should be welcome to this country with no discrimination. i am not a socialists, and i dont believe in religion. sometimes i doubt that god even exists. i just think people here are racist and ignorant and arent educated enough for proper character. i am not a republican or democrat, nor a communist. i am a neutral person IF THIS QUESTION GETS REMOVED. IT WILL ONLY PROVE ME RIGHT. AS SOME OF MY ANSWERS ON OTHER QUESTIONS GOT REMOVED FOR NO REASON MY PARENTS ARE ILLEGAL, AND HAVE A SOCIAL SECURITY, AND PAY TAXES EVERY YEAR. Open Question: Should I switch from playing Runescape to WoW? Read First!!!!?

Ok so I have played runescape for about 3 years and it has definately improved a lot since I started, especially graphically. It's also very affordable for me even though I pay-by-cash for $8 a month. However I've grown fairly bored of playing with immature middle school kids, and my family is in the process of switching from dial-up (yes it still exists and is the only choice in parts of rural Pennsylvania) to satellite internet. Part of the reason as to why I ever played runescape is that it was the only MMO that worked with Dial-up! Now as to how I'm looking at the situation if I play it im going full out, buying the retail version with a 30 day card, another 60 day card, and both expansions at the same time. I will ONLY PLAY THE RETAIL VERSION! NO PRIVATE SERVERS! Its nothing agaisnt those who do I just dont want double xp rates or starting at lvl 70/80 automatically Some questions I need answered are -Should I do it? -What is the community like (general maturity, friendliness, etc.) -How does the map of WoW compare to that of Runescape? -How does the combat system differ? -Is everything PvP or are there PvE worlds? -What are some things I'd find in Runescape that I won't find in WoW and vice-versa? -Is it easier or harder to level in WoW than in Runescape? Thanks so much to anyone willing to help answer my questions. If you ever want to talk in WoW or Playstation Network (for PS3 owners) My PSN name is Wildkatt66 (Send a friend req) and if u give me ur WoW name I'd be sure to add you if I make one. Open Question: Have you had problems with Boulder Medical Center or know someone who has?

My name is Brittany and I am organizing a protest of some of the practices Boulder Medical Center has put into place. The practices I am protesting are as follows, but not limited to (if you, for instance have a problem that is not represented): 1) Going in for a procedure, and instead getting sat down for a chat and having to schedule an appointment at a later time for the procedure you originally went in for. 2) Problems with accepting healthcare or billing the wrong provider. 3) Poor customer service when trying to resolve issues 4) Not accepting a contracted rate If you have had any of those problems, or have your own and want to be a part of a picket/protest, you can email me at bagpipes@idcomm.com. I am fed up with dealing with Boulder Medical and I feel that they took advantage of me and I desperately want to do something. I am filing a complaint with the Better Business Bureau and would encourage you to do the same. Thanks, Brittany  more

A championship doesnt make one player better than another. it makes no sense the way players are rated by media and fans. people say kobe is not better then jordan (which i agree with). but they say that bcuz jordan won 6 rings, thats not why, jordan is more clutch, better defensively, more athletic etc, these two players were in different eras and had different teams, people say that if kobe wins 7rings he will be better then jordan. that makes no kind of sense what so ever, to get a ring means you are on a championship TEAM and even if kobe wins 10 rings he is still not a better BASKETBALL PLAYER then jordan. -people say Duncan is the best power foward of alltime just bcuz he won 4 rings but that doesnt mean he is the best because of that, that means he had a champuionship supproting cast 4 times, Karl malone put up even bigger numbers and in some ways is better then duncan but since people are programmed to just say 4rings end of discussion, that is ignorant. really look at it, obviously duncan will have a better resume in the era he played in compared to the era malone did, when malone made it to the finals he always had to deal with jordans bulls and he competed against many other great power fowards that could win all nba team awards and mvps which obviously will make his resume look less than duncans, im sure if duncans spurs ran into jordans bulls every year in the finals he would not have 4 rings, the only two great power fowards duncan has battled with this decade were nowitzki and garnett, while malone had to deal with barkley and many others mchale etc. who knows if malone was in this era and with duncans spurs how much rings he would win. im not sayin malone is better and there are many other power fowards i can use as an example but all im sayin is that we cant just base being the best off just champonships bcuz competition level and teams are different in different eras and not everyone is blessed with a great team. base it off what they can do. if we just base it off that then robert horry is the greatest pf. people need to realize the greatness of players that are not on great teams. t-mac is considered a loser and choker. for what??? the man never made it out the 1st rd and if you look at the teams he played with he has never been on a team that was better then the team that knocked them out. the man averaged 28ppg in the playoffs and is top5 in playoff scoring, he just never had help. im pretty sure if he had shaq for three years like kobe then he would accomplish something. when your on a bad team it makes you look worse then what you are and people need to recognize greatness no matter where a player plays and what team he has. dirk suddenly became a forgotten man bcuz his team stinks now but people forget how great this hall of famer is, he is the best 7 foot shooter off alltime and the most skilled 7footer to play the game, he won mvp and the man is just great but know that his team sucks people forget that. Paul pierce- in 05-07 no body talked about paul and no body considered him a top20 player but know all the sudden he gets two future hall of famers beside him and he wins a ring he is suddenly a top10 player???? how does that make any sense when he was actually better in 05 than know. people only recognize how great a player is when he is on a good team. Pau gasol- what happedned to him being soft and unable to be a franchise elite player??? know that he joins kobe and wins a ring with a great team he is suddenly a top5 pf and elite player? makes no sense to me. PEOPLE NEED TO STOP FLIP FLOPPING AND recognize the greatness of player even when they are on bad teams and it is sad the way players are rated in the nba. the robert horry thing ment that if we base it off just rings he's the best. just to clear that up. no i didnt thumb you down Darko, i think someone else did.  more

Open Question: Do you know what the real culprit for the high healthcare costs is?

Education should not be this expensive.  more

Open Question: rate my two songs please?

Here's two songs i'd like to know yalls opinions on. This one i wrote write before bed last night: And its harder now to fall asleep With these restless thoughts About the secrets you keep I know this wasn't all in my head There was something real Behind the words that you said Go ahead tell me it wasn't true But i felt your breath When you pulled me closer to you It was was rainy night You picked me up off the floor You made it alright And I kept comin' back for more You put your hand in mine You looked into my eyes And you made the sun shine But now it's cold and grey And I'm right back to the start And now I can't get thru the day Without wondering When I'll get to see you next Cos I haven't smiled in a while And I need your voice And your body against mine You can deny it all you want But I wont forget The way I felt you're hands on me It was was rainy night You picked me up off the floor You made it alright And I kept comin' back for more You put your hand in mine You looked into my eyes And you made the sun shine But now it's cold and grey And I'm right back to the start I understand you have to go But I just want you to know I wont forget It was was rainy night You picked me up off the floor You made it alright And I kept comin' back for more You put your hand in mine You looked into my eyes And you made the sun shine But now it's cold and grey And I'm right back to the start And this one i wrote like 2 days ago. They were both written in about 5 minutes so i know they could use some editing, but it's easier for me to finish a song when its all going thru my head. I'm a 15 year old girl by the way. and i hold you so tight cos i know once i let go, i wont have you back for a while and i look at you and i dont turn away, cos i dont wanna lose your smile and i know this is how it has to be you love her but you'll always come to me when you're in need of smiling when you just need to let go and ill be here for you ill never walk away cos you do something for me that no one else can you give me crazy feelings when you hold my hand i feel so safe when you hold me and i love when we stay up all night all of these feelings are worth the fight so i wont walk away just promise me something i dont mind being in second place as long as you never leave i will play these games for as long as i can just to be held in your arms cos i know the second you let go she'll be in my place and i'll be alone feeling sick to my stomach but when you come back i know i'll feel fine cos you do something for me that no one else can you give me crazy feelings when you hold my hand i feel so safe when you hold me and i love when we stay up all night all of these feelings are worth the fight so i wont walk away but please remember i am fragile, i could break the second you decide that you should walk away i know this is wrong, we shouldn't do this but please just stay cos you do something for me that no one else can you give me crazy feelings when you hold my hand oh when you hold my hand  more

Open Question: Can you sue for punitive damages in small claims court or only direct monetary damages?

A local auto repair shop tried to scam me for $200 for new parts (radiator and thermostat) when it turned out all I needed was coolant because they left my radiator cap loose during a previous oil change (yes, i'm fully aware you don't need to remove a radiator cap to do an oil change). I filed a complaint with the Bureau of Automotive Repair to try to get the money back I spent on coolant ($10, but it was the principle of the matter). The manager at the shop lied and said I was rude to both him AND customers on site! So I did not get my $10. Anyway, upon looking up that same location at the website for the Better Business Bureau, I discovered they have a rating of F. Out of 17 total complaints filed, 14 have gone unanswered. I want to take them to court and use this as evidence that they are liable for punitive damages to hopefully get their attention and make them respond to complaints in the future. Is this possible, or do I need to take this to civil court?? someone mentioned the laws vary by state. I'm in California  more

Ok, the TV's old but I think I can still do it. Its working for all my other devices. But ive got a emachines d620 laptop that has a VGA output, and can hookup to TV's with a VGA to s-video and yellow RCA converter. Its just on this TV i dont know how to hook it up. But when I get to my ATI Catalyst Control Center on XP, and hook it up to the right settings 1600x1200 it doesnt come on. I dont know the refresh rate, but I think thats important as well. Open Question: am i ugly? (pics included)?

I've always had trouble in relationships, always been cheated on, every single guy. the only time i wasn't cheated on, the guy moved. do you think i'm ugly, or something, where i can't find a decent guy? i know every girl says this, but looks don't really matter, as long as they're nice to me, i'm happy, because everyone deserves a chance to be with someone they like, so looks personally don't matter to me that much, they're just extra. what do you think about me? myspace.com/lilangelbbyxgrl in the default picture, i'm the asian one, wearing a pink and white dress with dark wavy hair (yes, uncommonly natural for an asian) what are your overall thoughts? you can do the 1-10 thing if it's easier, but i would love to have actual opinions made up of words. you can rate my friend too, if you want :) by the way, i don't wear makeup. what should i change about myself? different hair? use makeup? thanks  more

Open Question: Building an htpc w/ 270w proprietary psu (specs included)?

Hi im going to building an htpc w/ this case: http://www.newegg.ca/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16811121027 The only reason im getting this case is because of space restrictions in my entertainment unit. Other than that i probably wouldn't have considered this case becasue of the proprietary psu of 270w. But its small and fits my budget. Here are my specs: ASUS M3N78-VM (integrated Nvidea 8200) 5050e Brisbane 2.6GHz (45w) **OR** 7750 Kuma 2.7GHz (95w) 4GB (2 x 2GB) 1TB WD Green sata HD 1 sata DVD-RW drive (The case has one 80mm fan, and im going to be attaching two usb ir receivers for mouse/keyboard/remote) So...Various power supply calculators rate this set-up as 175-230w with the 7750 Kuma 95w added and even lower with the 5050e Brisbane 45w. * I know most of you are saying, why even consider the 7750 becasue of the high wattage?!!? But the truth of the matter is.. If I went with the 7750 id save myself 50 dollars or more, because a local shop has them on clearance. And I know theres no definitive answer but, will i be ok going w/ the 7750 instead of the 5050e?  more

Open Question: College board reconsiders illegal immigrant policy why should this even be debated?

http://www.newsobserver.com/news/story/1574429.html ASHEBORO -- State community college officials will consider re-opening their doors to illegal immigrants. Several members of the State Board of Community Colleges said during a committee meeting at Randolph Community College today that they favored allowing illegal immigrants to attend at out-of-state tuition rates. Undocumented students have been barred from degree programs at the state's 58 community colleges since May, 2008, while officials study the issue. "These young people are here with basically no fault of their own," said board member Joanne Steiner of Wake Forest. "I am highly opposed to creating a subculture of people who have no hope." Other members agreed that they did not want to close the doors of education for any group of students. "If a student is sufficiently motivated to pay out-of-state tuition, it should not be our role as community college educators to stand in their way," said board member Dr. Stuart Fountain, a retired dentist from Asheboro. They asked system staff to draw up a recommendation that would allow the admission of undocumented immigrants who graduated from U.S. high schools, the same policy that the University of North Carolina system uses. The board's policy committee will consider whether to send that recommendation to the full board at its next meeting in August. It will take the board several more months to set a final policy.  more

Open Question: What would be the point of buying Private Health care from my work?

Once the government plan goes into effect, why even buy it? 1. Your rates will go up, because you will be taxed on health benefits. 2. You are already paying for the govt healthcare through higher taxes on items anyways. (gas, tobacco, canned/bottled beverages, etc,) 3. After all is said and done, buying your own insurance through work will be DOUBLE after you add it all up, yet you will still be receiving the same care as before. So what would be the point of paying for insurance through work?  more

Resolved Question: Why are major retailers fleeing Detroit?

Because this is what happens when democrats get their way. Everyone who is productive leaves and all that is left are the bottom feeders looking for government assistance and handouts. You look at what happens when democrats have control. I urge you. It isn't pretty. California is broke, Michigan has the highest unemployment, Illinois is broke, Massachusettes has some of the highest tax rates on business so they leave, etc etc. Be very careful what you wish for if we get government controlling everything many producers will stop producing and let government take care of them just like everyone does in Detroit and East Saint Louis. If life on government aid is comfortable, what is the incentive to get up and grab your boot staps and go to work? If we socialize health care we are doomed. I know I am going to be less willing to work so I can pay for your health care.  more

Open Question: Apartment owners got F rating from BBB, Should I worry?

I research the apartment complex I am looking into moving to in a couple of months and found that they had some complaints against them. So I went to the Better Business Bureau and it says that the company that owns these apartments got an F rating. They state that they got 7 complaints against them in the last 36 months for refund and security deposit problems. 4 problems were resolved with 2 remaining unresloved. I then proceeded to look up the apartments themselves and found that the apartments got a B rating. They state that they got 2 complaints in the past 36 months about the same security deposit refund problems but both were resolved. Is this something that I should worry about if I decide to move there? I want to protect myself against any wrong doing this company might do envolving this security deposit fraud .  more

Open Question: defaulting on credit cards?

After 37 years working for the same company, I was laid off over a year ago at the age of 57. I’ve always had excellent credit rating, paying all my creditors on time for years UNTIL NOW. I have a 401k but will soon need that to continue to keep a roof over my head. I rent! I stopped paying most of my 5 cards and to be quite blunt I’M TERRIFIED ! causing me panic attacks. I get constant calls but I never answer the phone. Just a few minutes ago I received a FedEx with only one page from a creditor. They want to work with me , lower my payments etc. I don’t even have money for that, is either pay them or end up in the street. That simple page is gonna keep me up for days. What should I do, give them all the money I have in my 401k for peace of mind and move to a shelter or continue not answering my phone, until I have nervous break down. Am I worrying too much? Thank you  more

Open Question: How good of an exercise is biking?

Will riding my mountain bike at a good pace for about an hour every day help me get in shape and lose a few pounds? I really only want to lose somewhere between 5 and 10 pounds, and tone up a bit. I don't expect or want anything drastic. So do you think biking every day for an hour, eating decently healthy, drinking water and stretching will help me shape up a bit? Or is this plan not enough? If it makes any difference, I do feel quite exhausted after my hour of biking, my heart rate stays up the whole time, and at times during the hour it gets pretty hard.  more

Open Question: Effusion/Diffusion Chemistry Help!!!?

I posted a question and the answer was given and I cannot get my math to add up correct? THE QUESTION: If 4.83mL of an unknown gas effuses through a hole in a plate in the same time it takes 9.23mL of Argon, Ar, to effuse through the same hole under the same conditions, what is the molecular mass of the unknown gas? (146amu) THE RESPONSE: Graham's law of effusion states that the rate of effusion of a gas through a small orifice is inversely proportional to the square root of its molecular mass. The relative effusion rates of two gases R1 and R2 is therefor given by: R1/R2 = sqrt(m1/m2) where R1 and R2 are the effusion rates of gases with masses m1 and m2, respectively. Argon gas has a molecular mass of 39.948 gm/mol (the same as its atomic mass because Ar (g) is monoatomic). In this question, the unknown gas effuses 4.83ml/9.23ml = 0.524 times as fast as the Ar, so we have: THE SPOT I GOT LOST: R1/R2 = 0.524 = sqrt((39.948gm/mol)/m) m = (39.938 gm/mol)/(0524^2) where m is the molecular mass of the unknown gas. m = 145.88 gm/mol, which, when rounded to 3 significant figures (the number of significant figures used in the data given in the question) is 146 gm/mol.  more
