Resolved Question: NEED help on my statement?

i want to go to uni and need help in my statement can you please check it for me and tell me what you think ' Nursing in my opinion is a career in which you can gain skills and experiences everyday and its continuous learning. Its a career which brings different challenges on a daily basis and it comes with many rewards and a sense of job satisfactions. Growing up my ideal job was becoming a police officer, i felt this was something i would love to do as it was a job in which i could help people and it was a demanding and very challenging job. I appealed to this job because it was a job where you had to to take risk and also dealing with people. I decided to join the west midlands police service in 2005 as a special constable( voluntary), i did this because i wanted to know if it was something i could do full time and because i am determined, level headed and love to be around people. I stayed as a special for 2years in which i gain skills in communication, dealing with people from all backgrounds and beliefs, feeling proud to be part of the team that provides a professional and valued service to the community, learn how to protect the public, provide a reassuring presence in the community, good judgment and decision-making skills. Whilst working for the west midlands police i was working in a restaurant (Pizza Hut) i had worked there since September 2003. I was working as a waitress and worked BOH and in 2005 after working 2 years i progressed in becoming a support manager. In this job i was able to gain skills again with people and how to communicate with all kinds of people from different backgrounds. In this job being organized was very important especially as a support manager, you were in charged of employers and the restaurant. You had to make sure your daily targets were being matched or go beyond, and if this wasn't matched you had to while running your shift make decisions in which you had to improve your performance. I am a very patient person so i like working under pressure and tend not to stress myself out or others and this was very important in this job, as you are working with a team who you have to work with and delegate to them. i worked in this job just over 5 years. From the both jobs i gained many skills and now as a person i feel that i am very patient, a good communicator, able to work in a team well, good at listening, able to calm situations down and good at organizing myself and others. After leaving this job i got a job with the NHS as a ward service officer. I have been doing this for nearly 5 months and i really enjoy this job. I enjoy it because it gave me a useful insight into the caring profession and has increased my motivation to work within it. Working as a ward service officer is a job which is none stop, its something which involves dealing with people, communicating with them and caring in which this is something i enjoy doing. I find this job satisfying because i get to see what working in a hospital involves and what others do and from this i have decided to train as a nurse. A nurse in my opinion is someone who loves to help people out; a way a patient and their families are treated and leaves a lasting impression on how they view the National Health Service. Its a job where you can make a difference in people life's and also there families. Its a challenging job and i am someone who will enjoy all challenges. Its rewarding in terms of you as a person giving in every way. Its also a job which involves working in a team which is something i enjoy doing and can work well in. An adult nursing degree will be something which i want to get into as i have already an understanding of what will be expected. I am deeply passionate about nursing and learning all about it, I am already looking forward to a long and fulfilling career in this field.'  more

Resolved Question: Would you vote for me? here is what I believe in!!! Please Read Vote Mr. Jones?

Economy-Taxes should be based on a percentage of what you make, that way it is fair. State sales taxes should not be over 5%. Corporations should not be controlled by the government, but if they pose some kind of danger to the country they should be regulated. Environment-The government should support Electric cars by offering tax credits to companies that sell them. Also people who buy them should be recieve a tax credit. Solar power should replace the use of oil. Domestic production should continue middle eastern oil should not be used by the U.S. Wind power should be used in off shore wind farms. Immigration-English should become the national lanuage. Documents including drivers test should all be in english. Illegal immigrants should be prosecuted, they broke the law, and they should be deported. The U.S. should support legal immigration, but due to over population the number of new citizens should be resticted. Companies that employ illegals should be fined and or put out of bussiness. A wall should be constructed along the U.S. mexican border. The U.S. should support workers visa cards for people who want to work here. The U.S. should guide Mexico to help them improve their country, but should not do so with tax payer's money. Abortion-should be allowed, look at it this way. Do you want to pay with your taxes for someone's kid to go through hell living in child care without parents? and what if a girl was raped? This is not an easy answer, and I don't support the idea of it, but in reality I think it should be allowed, I support abortion. I also support stem cell research. Gay Marriage-I do not support, but if the majority of a state's population wants to allow it, then it should be allowed. Death Penalty-I support, but the evidence has to be there. Your taxes should not go to keeping murdurers and rapists alive. Crime-More Police and harsher laws. I do not believe in legalizing drugs. Medicinal use should be allowed though. Kids should be educated better in school through programs like d.a.r.e. More colleges should be built in high crime areas like L.A. Oakland, Detriot, to offer people a chance to escape from poverty. Welfare-I do not believe a large portion of taxes should go to welfare, people need to help themselves. I do believe in food stamps and out of work aid, but not welfare cadallics. Education-needs national standards and all schools need to have the same criteria in order to graduate high schools and colleges. If a student obtains a GPA above 3.5 their cost to attend any college of their choice (accepted to) should be waved. College should not be out of reach, anyone should be able to attend schools like harvard if they worked hard, despite what their parents make. Military-Afganistan should be kept under control due to the terror treat. Osama Bin Laden should be captured and prosecuted for his crimes. Diplomacy should always be used before military engagement. The United Nations should should step in on certain issues like the genocide in Darfur. Dipolmacy should be used towards North Korea, but if they go against international law they should be sanctioned. Gantonomo should not be shut down. They should recieve trials in court though. Social Security-should not be spent by the government it isn't their money to spend. Health Care-should be similar to Canada The Second Amendment-automatic weapons should be illegal, background checks should be required, Certain guns should not be owned. Should be regulated, but responsible people should be allowed to own a gun. Afirmative Action-should be abolished, there should be a colorblindness towards everyone. People should be defined by their accomplishments not by their race. I HAVE JUST PRESENTED SOME ISSUSE AND MY STANCE ON THEM. IF I RAN AS AN INDEPENDENT WOULD YOU VOTE FOR ME. YES OR NO AND WHY. THANK YOU  more

Resolved Question: Is it MANDATORY for a Background Check to be done when being hired ANYWHERE?

And does the employer still have the CHOICE to do it BCI (State ) or NCIC (National)? Or is it still legal for them to say 'We like you so fill out your I-9 and we will photocopy your State ID and Social Security Card and start working tomorrow'? Im asking die to applying at: 1) Burger World (Five Guys Burgers Fries, Ohio) 2) DISH Network (Hilliard, Ohio) I have a 3rd Degree Crime happened 3 years ago, statute 2C:39-5 for which I: 1) Paid all my fines, 2) Successfully completed 2 years Probation released early by my P.O. with no violations, 3) Performed the community service you have to do for Probation. Can -anyone- shed some light on this, '3rd Degree Crime in NJ' can mean whatever anyone wants it to mean. (I used to live in NJ. Every crime in municipal court except for a City Ordinance which pop up every once in awhile is 3rd degree. its a blanket thing and NJ knows it.) So HOW then does it affect my job search in Ohio? Resolved Question: Illegals claim "Our economy could not survive without the illegal immigrant population?

The Immigration and Customs Enforcement Agency's Boston office is a busy place these days. Foucart says it matter of national security. "The people who are making and selling these documents do not run background checks. So they do not know if they have terrorist or a murderer from another country." By most estimates, there are 10 to 12 million undocumented immigrants in this country and for every job they land with bogus documents, an unemployed American citizen stays that way. That is causing resentment. Just ask this woman who works with the immigrant community in Somerville and asked that her name not be used. "Our economy could not survive without the immigrant population but unfortunately that tension is really mounting." Recently on City Hall Plaza in downtown Boston, organizations pushing for new federal immigration laws say the current immigration system is broken. They say today's system often makes criminals out of honest people. Patricia Montes also works with undocumented immigrants in Somerville. She says bogus paperwork is a real problem for everyone. "People become desperate and they are trying to come to this country without documents." Federal agents say these document mills, as they are called, are operating right now in many communities including Framingham, Everett, Somerville and Boston. Federal investigators have video of these illegal operations in motion. Video shot at the Medford MBTA stop shows the document criminals handing off the phony ID's to a runner who delivers them to paying customers. Special agent Foucart says the newest challenge is real birth certificates purchased off the streets of Puerto Rico and then sold on the streets of New England. Shortsleeve asked, "So if I walked into a registry of motor vehicles, how do they know I am not this person?" Foucart's response: "That is the problem exactly….and that is why they are so valuable." The feds say almost all of the 9/11 terrorists had four or five driver's licenses from different states probably made possible by criminal groups still operating today. In March, Federal Agents here in Boston arrested a 48-year-old woman working for the registry of motor vehicles in Brockton and charged her with making license for undocumented aliens in exchange for cash. http://wbztv.com/local/illegal.immigrants.documents.2.1016386.html  more

Resolved Question: Why are liberals more afraid of law-abiding citizens than they are of criminals?

Liberals are beside themselves because law-abiding citizens are now allowed to carry their guns into national parks. However, they have no fear of the criminals that have guns. They want to understand them and get them counseling. Please answer me liberals - why are you more afraid of someone who has passed a background check and is legally allowed to own and carry a gun than some thug who does whatever he wants regardless of the laws? What's your logic? Are they really so incredibly ignorant that they don't understand that laws don't stop criminals from doing whatever they want? THAT is the definition of a criminal!  more

Voting Question: Looking for an effective National Criminal Check?

Anybody know of one that might be useful? I just want to check the history of a client I am about to pursue. Has anyone had success using any of these websites that state to offer criminal background checks? I don't have any other way of checking so if anyone could help I would really appreciate it. I don't mind paying some fee if it actually does work and is reliable. Thanks Again  more

Resolved Question: What companies do BCI (State) background checks vs. NCIC (National?)?

I am wondering which companies do only a BCI (Ohio) Criminal Check of applicants, vs. An NCIC check (Nationwide) of potential New Hires. I have a 3rd degree conviction that is worded as Possession Of a Weapon from 2006 in NJ and its complete BS, it was a BB gun in 'Plain View' and it says Knowingly and Purposefully Possession a Weapon namely BB Gun in violation of 2C:39-5... no time, probation. What companies here in Ohio and elsewhere will hire me, who is hiring, and who runs BCI only and who will hire me and not care (ehat are some jobs for people with -real- felonies and i have to split hairs about how 3rd degree is not a Felony?) My field is Cistomer Service and Information Technology, ive went to College for this.  more

Resolved Question: Question concerning marrying a foreign national?

Does anyone know whether it is possible for someone in the Army who is stationed in Europe, to marry a foreign national yet not in the country where the person in stationed but back at home in the US (while on leave)? I just heard that when marrying a foreign national one would have to fill out a bunch of paperwork and that they'd do a background check on the partner (the foreign national). But it seems like that this is relevant when marrying abroad and not in the US. How would you have to go about that? (paperwork wise and so on) Thanks!  more

Resolved Question: There are at least 40 reasons why we need to ban guns now. Why won't our leaders do so?

1. Banning guns works, which is why New York, DC, Detroit & Chicago cops need guns. 2. Washington DC’s low murder rate of 69 per 100,000 is due to strict gun control, and Indianapolis’s high murder rate of 9 per 100,000 is due to the lack of gun control. 3. Statistics showing high murder rates justify gun control but statistics showing increasing murder rates after gun control are “just statistics.” 4. The Brady Bill and the Assault Weapons Ban, both of which went into effect in 1994 are responsible for the decrease in violent crime rates, which have been declining since 1991. 5. We must get rid of guns because a deranged lunatic may go on a shooting spree at any time and anyone who would own a gun out of fear of such a lunatic is paranoid. 6. The more helpless you are the safer you are from criminals. 7. An intruder will be incapacitated by tear gas or oven spray, but if shot with a .357 Magnum will get angry and kill you. 8. A woman raped and strangled is morally superior to a woman with a smoking gun and a dead rapist at her feet. 9. When confronted by violent criminals, you should “put up no defense - give them what they want, or run” (Handgun Control Inc. Chairman Pete Shields, Guns Don’t Die - People Do, 1981, p. 125). 10. The New England Journal of Medicine is filled with expert advice about guns; just like Guns & Ammo has some excellent treatises on heart surgery. 11. One should consult an automotive engineer for safer seat belts, a civil engineer for a better bridge, a surgeon for internal medicine, a computer programmer for hard drive problems, and Sarah Brady for firearms expertise. 12. The 2nd Amendment, ratified in 1787, refers to the National Guard, which was created 130 years later, in 1917. 13. The National Guard, federally funded, with bases on federal land, using federally-owned weapons, vehicles, buildings and uniforms, punishing trespassers under federal law, is a “state” militia. 14. These phrases: “right of the people peaceably to assemble,” “right of the people to be secure in their homes,” “enumerations herein of certain rights shall not be construed to disparage others retained by the people,” and “The powers not delegated herein are reserved to the states respectively, and to the people” all refer to individuals, but “the right of the people to keep and bear arms” refers to the state. 15. “The Constitution is strong and will never change.” But we should ban and seize all guns thereby violating the 2nd, 4th, and 5th Amendments to that Constitution. 16. Rifles and handguns aren’t necessary to national defense! Of course, the army has hundreds of thousands of them. 17. Private citizens shouldn’t have handguns, because they aren’t “military weapons”, but private citizens shouldn’t have “assault rifles”, because they are military weapons. 18. In spite of waiting periods, background checks, fingerprinting, government forms, etc., guns today are too readily available, which is responsible for recent school shootings. In the 1940’s, 1950’s and 1960’s,anyone could buy guns at hardware stores, army surplus stores, gas stations, variety stores, Sears mail order, no waiting, no background check, no fingerprints, no government forms and there were no school shootings. 19. The NRA’s attempt to run a “don’t touch” campaign about kids handling guns is propaganda, but the anti-gun lobby’s attempt to run a “don’t touch” campaign is responsible social activity. 20. Guns are so complex that special training is necessary to use them properly, and so simple to use that they make murder easy. 21. A handgun, with up to 4 controls, is far too complex for the typical adult to learn to use, as opposed to an automobile that only has 20. 22. Women are just as intelligent and capable as men but a woman with a gun is “an accident waiting to happen” and gun makers’ advertisements aimed at women are “preying on their fears.” 23. Ordinary people in the presence of guns turn into slaughtering butchers but revert to normal when the weapon is removed. 24. Guns cause violence, which is why there are so many mass killings at gun shows. 25. A majority of the population supports gun control, just like a majority of the population supported owning slaves. 26. Any self-loading small arm can legitimately be considered to be a “weapon of mass destruction” or an “assault weapon.” 27. Most people can’t be trusted, so we should have laws against guns, which most people will abide by because they can be trusted. 28. The right of Internet pornographers to exist cannot be questioned because it is constitutionally protected by the Bill of Rights, but the use of handguns for self defense is not really protected by the Bill of Rights. 29. Free speech entitles one to own newspapers, transmitters, computers, and typewriters, but self- defense only justifies bare hands. 30. The ACLU is good because it uncompromisingly defends certain parts of t 30. The ACLU is good because it uncompromisingly defends certain parts of the Constitution, and the NRA is bad, because it defends other parts of the Constitution. 31. Charlton Heston, a movie actor as president of the NRA was a cheap lunatic who should be ignored, but Michael Douglas, a movie actor as a representative of Handgun Control, Inc. is an ambassador for peace who is entitled to an audience at the UN arms control summit. 32. Police operate with backup within groups, which is why they need larger capacity pistol magazines than do “civilians” who must face criminals alone and therefore need less ammunition. 33. We should ban “Saturday Night Specials” and other inexpensive guns because it’s not fair that poor people have access to guns too. 34. Police officers have some special Jedi-like mastery over handguns that private citizens can never hope to obtain. 35. Private citizens don’t need a gun for self-protection because the police are there to protect them even though the Supreme Court says the police are not responsible for their protection. 36. Citizens don’t need to carry a gun for personal protection but police chiefs, who are desk-bound administrators who work in a building filled with cops, need a gun. 37. “Assault weapons” have no purpose other than to kill large numbers of people. The police need assault weapons. You do not. 38. When Microsoft pressures its distributors to give Microsoft preferential promotion, that’s bad; but when the Federal government pressures cities to buy guns only from Smith & Wesson, that’s good. 39. Trigger locks do not interfere with the ability to use a gun for defensive purposes, which is why you see police officers with one on their duty weapon. 40. Handgun Control, Inc., says they want to “keep guns out of the wrong hands.” Guess what? You have the wrong hands.  more

Resolved Question: Is it time to shut the door?

I Quote from a Yahoo news story: Eleven Pakistani nationals, ten of whom hold student visas, and one UK-born Briton are being questioned at various locations in the UK. Prime Minister Gordon Brown spoke to Pakistan's president, Asif Ali Zardari, on Thursday night amid concern about the number of suspects who had come to the UK from Pakistan on student visas. Pakistan's High Commissioner, Wajid Shamsul Hasan, dismissed claims that his country was not doing enough to tackle the extremists, insisting it was the UK that needed to do more. He said the Pakistani authorities could help carry out background checks on student visa applicants but were not allowed to. .....foreign national students were checked against watchlists of criminals and suspects from other countries. So if Pakistan is not allowed to do background checks on the students, how exactly can it be said that the list is comprehensive? If we only check against the list, we WILL be missing lots of potential criminals on their way in to the UK. In the light of this inability to adequately screen people entering the UK, and the Pakistani President's insistance that it is up to the UK to prevent them from entering, ie the fault of the UK immigration system for letting them in, then is it not time to shut the door? If the Pakistani Government wont help by tightening regulations so as to not export terrorists, the responsibility falls solely on the UK, surely we HAVE to do something now?  more

Resolved Question: This doesn't answer how to get a background check report on someone. Independent information .?

How do I obtain a national criminal background check on someone? Is there a free site for this information, or a reliable source of this information? Has anyone used a reliable site with success.? Yes I am serious. My original question is under police... Anyway, I need to request CRIMINAL background checks on several people (with several aliases in several states - each of them). I am trying to PROTECT an elderly woman and her money. I realize I amnot getting the full sccop because I know of someone who had a background check run on him, oh, about 15 years ago. He was infromed he had a FELONY on his record of which he was unaware (from 1970!!). He thought it had been dropped to a misdemeanor. So, someone has these records available (for a fee is ok), I was responding to someone who was looking for a free report - that would be fine, too. I've been able to get property ownership records on some people recently.  more

Resolved Question: How many of you can say you're willing to shoot Americans sent by Obama to seize your guns and/or property?

"A well regulated Militia, being necessary to the security of a free State, the right of the people to keep and bear Arms, shall not be infringed." U.S. Constitution, 2nd Amendment - 'Right to Bear Arms.' Ratified 12/15/1791. * * * * * "Barack Obama on Gun Control" http://www.ontheissues.org/domestic/Barack_Obama_Gun_Control.htm -Opposed bill okaying illegal gun use in home invasions Hale DeMar, a 52-year-old Wilmette resident, was arrested and charged with misdemeanor violations for shooting, in the shoulder and leg, a burglar who broke into his home not once, but twice. Cook County prosecutors dropped all charges against DeMar. In March 2004, the Illinois Senate passed Senate Bill 2165, a law introduced in response to DeMar's case, with provisions designed to assert a right of citizens to protect themselves against home invasions, such that self-defense requirements would be viewed to take precedence over local ordinances against handgun possession. The measure passed the Illinois Senate by a vote of 38-20. Barack Obama was one of the 20 state senators voting against the measure. -FactCheck: Yes, Obama endorsed Illinois handgun ban Obama was being misleading when he denied that his handwriting had been on a document endorsing a state ban on the sale and possession of handguns in Illinois. Obama responded, “No, my writing wasn’t on that particular questionnaire. As I said, I have never favored an all-out ban on handguns.” Actually, Obama’s writing was on the 1996 document, which was filed when Obama was running for the Illinois state Senate. A Chicago nonprofit, Independent Voters of Illinois, had this question, and Obama took hard line: 35. Do you support state legislation to: a. ban the manufacture, sale and possession of handguns? Yes. b. ban assault weapons? Yes. c. mandatory waiting periods and background checks? Yes. * * * * * "Georgia Rep. Issues Warning on National Security Force, Gun Ban" Kurt Nimmo, Infowars | November 10, 2008 http://www.infowars.com/georgia-rep-issues-warning-on-national-security-force-gun-ban/ In the wake of Barack Obama’s sweeping victory, at least one Congressman is warning of things to come. Rep. Paul Broun of Georgia has told the Associated Press he considers Obama a dangerous Marxist who may act on his promise to organize a domestic national security force on par with the U.S. military. “That’s exactly what Hitler did in Nazi Germany and it’s exactly what the Soviet Union did,” Broun said. “When he’s proposing to have a national security force that’s answering to him, that is as strong as the U.S. military, he’s showing me signs of being Marxist.” Rep. Broun believes an Obama administration may move to ban gun ownership as it builds a national security force.  more

Resolved Question: Secret security clearance - Please help?

How important is bad credit as a factor in receiving secret security clearance? I don't have any judgments, liens, lawsuits, etc. I do have several charged off accounts. Everything else on my background should check out, no arrests, no drug use, education and past employment, references, no shady connections or family members. The job itself isn't a matter of national security but the location of the job is. It's a civilian military job. Thanks. Frivolous debt equals about $14,000. About half is for my car, the other half are the charged off accounts. I'm thinking there are 7 charged off accounts. I do have some paid, paid as agreed, pays as agreed, etc on my report. I have $70,00 in student loan debt. My loans are in deferment right now because I am unemployed. Position is at least GS 07. They are still on my report, unpaid. If I can just get a darn job I can pay them off. Thanks, guys. I even went out today and started payment arrangements with the charged off accounts. They gladly worked with me. To my knowledge, no other weird crap. No DUIs, no weirdo child porn (I read that earlier today), no funny business, no arrest warrants, no drug usage, no terminations due to my own fault, etc. I have one traffic ticket for speeding and one traffic citation that didn't result in a fine or ticket. I have filed police reports against others but nothing where I was in the wrong. Now I'm scared they will not choose me because I am so darn boring! Even my neighbors can't say anything other than she gets her trash can in at a respectable time, she keeps to herself, and she always smile and say hello. I truly have nothing on my background. Even that is starting to scare me. Can you tell this is my first federal BI? Btw, the position is in health care.  more

Resolved Question: Can You Serve in the National Guard if You've Done Time in Jail?

Boyfriend wants to join, but he did 2 years in prison about 3.5 years ago for possession of a narcotic with intent to distribute. He was supposed to meet with a recruiter, but the guy blew him off- he had already given his social security number (Im assuming they did a background check and found out?). I can't find an answer on their website. Thanks. *While in jail, he got out early (was sentenced 5-8 years) by enlisting in their boot camp. After he got out, his probation (5 years) was ended after 1 year for good behavior. He's a good guy that made a stupid mistake, please don't judge.  more

Voting Question: What amount, if any, should an almost victim pay someone who saved him from foolishly paying for a scam?

A long time boarder (in his early sixties) with a 76 year old elderly gentleman at his residence learned his landlord had just signed a $19,000 dollar contract for his home driveway with an asphalt contractor who had just appeared from nowhere saying he had an oversupply of asphalt from another job he had just finished and would begin paving this driveway at a highly reduced rate if he would just allow him to start immediately with the surplus from the other finished job and give him a $7,000 check. Hearing the price and the story shortly afterwards, and due to the fact it was after business hours on a Friday , the boarder immediately went to his computer and searched for a National Asphalt Contractor's Trade Assoc. website. Sure enough he found a warning on the home page for customers to beware of contractors appearing unexpectedly saying they had a surplus from another job that they would sell cheap...it's a scam approach. The boarder then printed out the warning and took it to the landlord who, when uncomfortable concern had initially been expressed by the boarder about the contractor's price and his approach tactics, replied assuredly he'd assessed the cost of an asphalt driveway some time before and that he thought the price was OK. (He admitted later that he had not really done this) He also said that he had already signed the contract and that it was too late to do anything. To make a long story short(er), the boarder had to wait until the following Monday (contractor appeared and started the job on a late Friday...that's part of the scam strategy) to contact the State's Attorney General's office. When the contractor returned to finish the job late Monday morning the boarder confronted him, took his vehicle license number and told him he would be contacted by an inspector (name given to him). The contractor was obviously shaken and asked the boarder what he would have to do to not have to talk to that inspector. After we all, landlord included, sat down inside the home office to discuss my suggestion of doing the whole job at $1.00 per sq./ft. the phone rang. It was the inspector wanting to first speak with the home owner, and then he asked to talk to the contractor. When the inspector from the AG's Consumer Protection Office had finished talking to this contractor (and with whom he had confronted on occasions prior to this incident), the contractor agreed to the following: 1. Repave the already paved portion of the driveway and finish the rest at a depth of 3" (instead of the 1-2 inches he had started with). 2. He would not only tear up the previous contract, but write another at a charge of only $1.00 per sq/ft of surface area for the entire job (the boarder recommended figure) 3. After measuring for the total job area and having us agree to that assessment, he would return the difference in cash between that job cost and the $7,000 the customer had previously paid him. 4. He would make sure the customer was completely satisfied in every way before leaving and after-wards. Thanks to the intervention of his long-time boarder (and, yes, with the clout of the AG's office) this elderly gentleman had essentially recovered approximately $14,400 which he would have foolishly overspent on his driveway, and even ended up with a better quality (thicker) driveway to boot. [The initial contract called for $19,000, a $12,000 final payment when the job was done, after an initial $7,000 payment to begin. The contractor instead refunded approx $2,400 in cash when the new job cost was calculated to be approx. $4,600] How much, if anything at all, do you think would have been fair for the elderly man to offer his boarder as a reward or compensation for having intervened, despite his initial dis-concern, and who's efforts had saved him $14,400 from being foolishly wasted...not to mention also getting the better quality, thicker driveway Just so you'll know, yes, I'm the boarder and the elderly gentleman never offered a penny. Comments about this elderly gentleman's behavior aren't necessary or sought by me, but I would like several comments on what people of different backgrounds think would have been a fair monetary tribute to offer me as a gesture of appreciation, or whether you don't think a monetary offer/reward was necessary or appropriate.  more

Resolved Question: Volunteering Positions- Fast!?

I am applying for National Honor's Society, and besides the minimum GPA, you need to have 12 hours of volunteer work. This is due next Thursday. Luckily, I am already academically eligible and have 11 of the 12 needed hours to qualify. However, I still need an hour. I am in the North St. Paul area of Minnesota, and cannot find anything. I have called the local library, but they told me that I needed to fill out an application and then it would take weeks to review it. I found this ridiculous, but I ventured on! ;) Anyway, I even went so far as to ask my brother's teacher if I could volunteer as a teacher's assistant for a day, since he isn't on Spring Break yet and I am until the end of this week. But she rejected me as well. So. I am losing hope. I honestly will be so upset to have come this far and if I don't get into NHS for not getting an HOUR of work, I don't know what I'll do. I am extremely sorry for that huge novel of background, but here's my question. I need a place to volunteer-fast. I can't sign up for huge organizations that might take weeks or even months to process. It's due next Thursday. Hospitals are obviously out of the question. Are there any places where there is a short wait for volunteering? Should I check out my church? I'm Catholic, so would they have lots of things for me to do? Thank you all for answering. You are all fabulous. :D  more

Resolved Question: What do you think of the House passing the mandatory service setup bill?

Yep ... people dismiss it ... but they are setting up for it. Look at the bill directly from govtrack http://www.govtrack.us/congress/billtext.xpd?bill=h111-1388 Its name: "Text of H.R. 1388: Generations Invigorating Volunteerism and Education Act". You gotta love the way they use the DECEPTIVE titles for these laws ... "invigorating voluteerism and education act" ... sounds quite harmless, doesn't it? Look at section 6104. The legislation sets up a Commission to "address and analyze" mandatory public service (most notably sub-sections (6). Note also that this "privilege" is not restricted to the young - check out clause (12) (b) Specific Topics- In carrying out its general purpose under subsection (a), the Commission shall address and analyze the following specific topics: (1) The level of understanding about the current Federal, State, and local volunteer programs and opportunities for service among individuals in the United States. (2) The issues that deter volunteerism and national service, particularly among young people, and how the identified issues can be overcome. (3) Whether there is an appropriate role for Federal, State, and local governments in overcoming the issues that deter volunteerism and national service and, if appropriate, how to expand the relationships and partnerships between different levels of government in promoting volunteerism and national service. (4) Whether existing databases are effective in matching community needs to would-be volunteers and service providers. (5) The effect on the Nation, on those who serve, and on the families of those who serve, if all individuals in the United States were expected to perform national service or were required to perform a certain amount of national service. (6) WHETHER A WORKABLE, FAIR, AND REASONABLE MANDATORY SERVICE REQUIREMENT FOR ALL ABLE YOUNG PEOPLE COULD BE DEVELOPED, AND HOW SUCH A REQUIREMENT COULD BE IMPLEMENTED IN A MANNER THAT WOULD STRENGTHEN THE SOCIAL FABRIC OF THE NATION AND OVERCOME CIVIC CHALLENGES BY BRINGING TOGETHER PEOPLE FROM DIVERSE ECONOMIC, ETHNIC, AND EDUCATIONAL BACKGROUNDS. … (12) Whether current Federal volunteer programs are suited to address the special skills and needs of senior volunteers, and if not, how these programs can be improved such that the Federal Government can effectively promote service among the ‘baby boomer’ generation." Is this perhaps the beginnings of the National Civilian Army Obama stated was necessary? Does the word G E S T A P O come to mind for anyone? The bill passed in the House yesterday. Voting Question: Has anyone got away with a lie at MEPS?

A friend of mine joined the Army National Guard, and is a little concerned.... When he was 17 he was involved in a little dispute where he aquired a few criminal charges. Now he was never arrested, he was let go, reports were filed and he had to return to court for hearings arraignment etc... The outcome was charged, then reduced and eventualy dropped (continued without a finding) Now he TOLD his recruiter about it, put it on his app. with the recruiter, after running the local background check and it came back clean, the recruiter told him it would not be neccessary to mention it at meps, he made it through the meps FBI background check and still nothing came up. He is enlisted and leaving soon for basic,.losing sleep because he let someone convince him to lie, he is trying to find away to make the situation right. Im trying to tell him that he does not need secret clearance or any clearance for his MOS and that they shouldnt look any further into it, he should be ok. Is there anything he can do now to straighten it out? What your take? I know he shouldnt have lied and i told him that from the start but now its too late to go back. Or is it?? Any input is appreciated.  more

Resolved Question: What happens to your record when you move to another state?

So I am planning on moving to california from virginia and was wondering how does your dmv/background record follow you. For example, my friend got a ticket here in virginia but it doesnt show up on his maryland dmv record. So if I was to move to California, my record wouldnt show up there? I have a 3 year old speeding ticker and a 3 year old hit and run traffic misdemeanor (the got settled for cash and then told the cops I never stopped :/ ) If I was to have the background performed in CA and never told my employer about my residence in Virginia then that wouldnt be checked right??? Someone told me this and it sort of makes sense, when I was processing for the Marine Corps, they have asked of all the counties I lived in so they can do background there, I dont think there is a national database especially for minor crimes, am I wrong?  more

Resolved Question: Do the following facts support GUN CONTROL?

1. Banning guns works, which is why New York, DC, & Chicago cops need guns. 2. Washington DC’s low murder rate of 69 per 100,000 is due to strict gun control, and Indianapolis’ high murder rate of 9 per 100,000 is due to the lack of gun control. 11. One should consult an automotive engineer for safer seatbelts, a civil engineer for a better bridge, a surgeon for internal medicine, a computer programmer for hard drive problems, and Sarah Brady for firearms expertise. In the 1940’s, 1950’s and 1960’s, anyone could buy guns at hardware stores, army surplus stores, gas stations, variety stores, Sears mail order, no waiting, no background check, no fingerprints, no government forms and there were no school shootings. 30. The ACLU is good because it uncompr uncompromisingly defends certain parts of the Constitution, and the NRA is bad, because it defends other parts of the Constitution. 31. Charlton Heston, a movie actor as president of the NRA is a cheap lunatic who should be ignored, but Michael Douglas, a movie actor as a representative of Handgun Control, Inc. is an ambassador for peace who is entitled to an audience at the UN arms control summit. 35. Private citizens don’t need a gun for self- protection because the police are there to protect them even though the Supreme Court says the police are not responsible for their protection. PLEASE READ ALL DETAILS CAREFULLY!  more

Resolved Question: Forged bad check written 5 years ago. Didn't know warrant was issued.?

A bad check was written in the end of 2003. A warrant was issued Aug 2004. 2 days ago, he was stopped for speeding by a state trooper. They said that the warrant was out for a bad check written 5 years ago. They arrested him and took him to the police station in the county that the check had originally been written in. The signature doesn't look like his. But they still don't believe it. He bailed himself out. Court date is at the end of this month. The account was already closed at the time the check was written. We are calling the bank tomorrow. (Monday) everything happened over the weekend. He traveled a lot back then, that could be the reason why he never received any of the notices they say that they sent. ( From both the court and the bank) But what we don't understand is, 1, When he got pulled over in the past 5 years, they never told him or arrested him like they did Friday. 2, He got a passport AFTER the warrant was issued, so, how could he get a passport. 3, He was also in the re-upped into the National Guard after the warrant was issued. Why didn't they find out? And major background checks for job purposes. And a background check we ran as a joke. Why did it not show up? He asked all those questions when he was talking the officer but the only thing they said was " We don't know why, but your warrant was issued." What can we do legally to prove that the bad check was forged? Can the bank go back 5 years for the information? Maybe to compare the signature to prove it's not his? The whole thing just doesn't seem right. Does anybody have any idea? I would appreciate any advice.  more

Resolved Question: Question regarding Hiring Process & Background Check?

Ok here's the situation. I just got hired at a large national chain gym. I filled out applications, emplyee disclosure papers, w2 form, and the whole 9 yards. I did give my employer permission to do drugtest and perform background and do whatever they need to do. My problem is that last November I was charged with marijuana class c misdemeanor. I completed deferred disposition and it was dismissed. So if it appears on my record it's only a charge, not a conviction. My employer has told me already that I'm hired and I'll start next week because the paperwork needs to process. I technically lied on the app on the part that asks if you hav ever been charged. What's the chance this "processing of the paperwork" will deny me my job? I mean, wouldn't you think that if I've already done the w2 thing and provided direct deposit bank info that the I'm pretty much safe. Serious opinions please...and how does this process work?  more

Resolved Question: Has anybody read the propsal HR 45 yet?

Very interesting. Here are some highlights FINDINGS: gun violence in the United States is associated with the majority of homicides, over half the suicides, and two-thirds of non-fatal violent injuries//it is in the national interest and within the role of the Federal Government to ensure that the regulation of firearms is uniform among the States PURPOSE: to restrict the availability of qualifying firearms to criminals, youth, and other persons prohibited by Federal law from receiving firearms (I wonder who would be prohibited by federal law besides criminals) QUALIFYING FIREARM: any hand gun or semi automatic only exception is antiques (this encompasses a lot of firearms) LICENSING: In order to have a firearm you must have a license and to receive a license you must submit an application along with picture id, name and current address, date and place of birth, thumbprint, a certifcate of completion of a firearm course, an authorization for Attorney general to obtain your mental health records. this must be submitted to an authorized dealer or a fedearl government agency. (For you to have a gun legally you will have to be fingerprinted-Scary) ISSUANCE: The Attorney General will issue a license provided the applicant meets all of the requirements (this has worked out so well with mail in rebates--if you do this and this and send this then you will get a refund I have yet to get a refund, I wonder how many licenses will be denied because something has not been submitted correctly) REVOCATION AND CRIMINAL PENALITIES: Failure to report loss or theft, failure to provide change of address, failure to provide saftey in regards to child access, failure to posess a firearm license, failure to comply with universal background check INSPECTIONS: The attorney general may enter any place where firearms are manufactured, stored or held to inspect those areas.  more

Resolved Question: tips for an essay 10 points best answer?

hello, so im supposed to be pretending im a senator that is proposing a bill. My bill is to prohibit the buying, selling, and possession of handguns. please i need a good grader than knows about this subject. im in 7th grade, and my teacher grades hard cause he was previously a lawyer okay so this is my persuasive speech about my bill Senator Sam Cherfas’s speech on law #8 I am in favor of the bill that will prohibit the buying, selling, possession of firearms because I personally feel that guns cause so many casualties whether if it is homicide, suicide or just a mere accident. But more importantly, what is gun control? Why do we need it? Is it really worth the money? Do the pros over power the cons of this bill? These are all questions a citizen would ask about this bill. Gun control is the regulation of the sale and use of firearms. According to the centers for disease control and prevention, roughly 30,000 people are killed by guns in the U.S than in any other developed countries, making this an important issue. But guns are not only involved in deaths. For instance in 2003, there were roughly 348,000 murders, robberies, and aggravated assaults in which guns were used. Now is the time to act. The federal Bureau of investigation reports that in 2008, the U.S murder rate rose 5%, the largest one year increase since 1991! But what are the cons. Every bill has cons and so does ours. Mentions of the NRA, (the national rifle association, the largest- gun rights lobbying group) work hard to keep the 2nd amendment and have won every case to keep it from being erased. But when this bill is passed, this will change. Since 1939, the Supreme Court has not lead any further 2nd amendment cases, the most recent ruling. In 1997, overturned part of the 1993 Brady bill, but did not address 2nd amendment rights. The Brady Bill, passed by the United States Congress signed into law by President Bill Clinton on November 30, 1993, and went into effect on February 28, 1994. The act was named after James Brady, who was shot during an attempted assassination of President Ronald Reagan on March 30, 1981. The Brady Bill initially required purchasers to wait up to five days for a background check to occur before being allowed to purchase a handgun. Unfortunately, The five-day waiting period for handgun purchases expired on November 30, 1998 and was replaced by a computerized criminal background check prior to any firearm purchase from a dealer holding a Federal Firearms License (FFL). According to “gun control” written by Tom streissguth, people against gun control feel gun control laws are a threat to the personal freedoms of America. On the other hand, according the federal bureau of investigation, who recently conducted a survey, which stated that 91% of Americans in a survey of 1000 thought that there, should be at least minor restrictions on gun ownership? But what also did American people think, after all this is a democracy, 57% of Americans say that there should be a major restrictions or a ban. Innocent children also suffer from guns. According to the federal Bureau of investigation, 40% of homes in the U.S have guns. In 1996, 140 children died after being accidentally shot. According to on the issues, a registered database, 1,500 children are hurt every year. How can we let the future of America die so young? The founding fathers knew that over time laws would have to be changed. That is why they made the laws capable of being amended. Honestly, do you really think that because of the 2nd amendment the founding fathers would know this would cause 260,000,000 firearms being on the streets and roughly 30,000 people dying each year because of firearms? With deaths involving guns, occurring a lot more than in any other well developed country, This bill will make this horrifying statistic untrue in less than six months.  more

According to the federal Bureau of investigation, 40% of homes in the U.S have guns. In 1996, 140 children died after being accidentally shot. Resolved Question: rate my essay 10 points best answer?

hello, so im supposed to be pretending im a senator that is proposing a bill. The Brady Bill initially required purchasers to wait up to five days for a background check to occur before being allowed to purchase a handgun. Resolved Question: Can I get a work Visa to United States?

Case background of entity ABC: I had my H1B stamped through a company XX, though I did not intend to go to US and didnt even know when the company filed my H1 petition. Then I left the company XX and joined the company YY. I had to undergo a short training in US for which the company YY asked me to file B1/B2 to enable me to visit US. I secured B1/B2 (with multiple entries) and since then have traveled to US four times during my career span. I joined company ZZ, and during background check process it was understood that my bachelors degree could not be verified with the concerned university and it was tagged as 'invalid'. So later on, I removed 'graduation' entry from my profile. My profile now states that I am not a graduate. Now my question is, will I be eligible for H1 visa considering the above history. Now I have total 11 years of IT experience but will the consulate allow me to file H1 considering the fact that during previous two visa filing, it seems the education information now stands wrong in their database. Please advise. Education background: I had given my graduation through a private institute after formally completing 12 + 1 year of study. But the unfortunate part was, the said institute was not affiliated with any university and the degree that I got in the name of 'official' university turned out to be fake. I inquired with the institute and it seems they wound up their business and fled. Now this has put a black stigma on my profile. Now though I have honestly removed the graduation entry from my profile after the failed background check, but really want to know whether I can persue an IT career in US. I have secured the following other IT qualifications: Advanced Diploma course from National Institute of Information Technology (NIIT) - five semesters Microsoft Certified Systems Engineer (MCSE) Sun Certified Java Professional - v2 and v6 (SCJP) Sun Certified Web Component Developer (SCWCD) Sun Certified Business Component Developer (SCBCD) Sun Certified Enterprise Architect - Part 1 (SCEA) NSE - Beginners Financial Module (NSE) - Non IT Like I have no 'all-out' plan to move to US, but would like to consider given an option. Thank you  more

Resolved Question: 5150, California, & Federal Gun Law?

Monday, March 27, 2006 (about 4 pm), almost three years ago I attempted suicide by overdose. I was 21 at the time. Anyways, here I am three years later graduated from college and working. My husband is a police officer and we go target shooting often. We are both avid hikers, climbers and campers. I would like to buy a gun for protection and target practice, but am unsure whether or not I can. Here's the deal. I called 911 and an ambulance and a sheriff reported to the scene. I was already regretting my stupidity and calmly accepted all medical treatment. I was admitted to the ER and treated in ICU for 24 hours and then taken to a mental health facility involuntarily for 48 hours. I was released after about 72 hours (Thursday, March 30 about 7 pm). I have never had a history of mental illness before or since. I recently applied to be a California Youth Authority Corrections Counselor and then realized one requirement is the ability to possess and purchase a firearm. This is when I actually became concerned. I see that in California there is a five year wait period after a 5150, but federally there is a law that states if you have been held involuntarily in a mentally health facility or are deemed a "mental defective," (which I believe includes 5150s--threat to self or others) you may never purchase or possess any firearm in any state, ever! This seems pretty harsh and restrictive for someone like me. I am an intelligent, functioning person who did something stupid one time. Also, I see since Virginia Tech many law enforcement agencies, hospitals, and mental health facilities give this information to the state Department of Justice, who then can give this information to the FBI and a newer database, the NICS (National Instant Criminal Background Check System), so that this information can be on record and come up readily when determining gun ownership eligibility when purchasing a firearm. I checked with the sheriff's department and they do have an incident report, but I am unsure whether or not they, the hospital or the mental health facility passed notification of my 5150 to the Department of Justice and these federal agencies. I never went to court and I have no recollection of signing any paperwork. I was treated in the hospital, then held at mental health, and released after 72 hours. That's it. I read an article online that California has been big on sharing mental health records with these federal agencies recently and I am wondering if anyone can shed light in my dilemma. Do I even have to wait five years at all? And if so, can I purchase a gun after my five years is up? Or will my 5150 come up with the the FBI and/or NICS during the background check and wait period?? Should I try to get copies of my medical records or sheriff dept. records? Should I contact the Department of Justice? Has anyone else had a history of a 5150 in the state of California in their life time and later purchased a gun or been eligible to do so in the state of California? Also can state law trump federal law? I know it can for certain things. ie...medical marijuana or euthanasia, which is illegal federally but legal in some states. CA excludes you for 5 years. Federal law excludes anyone who "Has been adjudicated as a mental defective or has been committed to a mental institution." "Adjudicated" is a legal term I believe, referring to a court decision, which never occurred in my case. So I have never been legally found as such. And what does "mental defective" even mean?? Does being "adjudicated a mental defective" mean you were found incompetent?? ie. being placed under conservatorship, or are mentally retarded. As far as being "committed". I was placed on a 5150, 72 hour observation hold, as a danger to myself. I don't believe that actually constitutes being committed. Doesn't "committed" mean you were sentenced or placed in a mental health facility for a relatively extensive period of time?? ie. someone who was found guilty of murder on the basis of insanity and placed in an institution, or someone who, for example is stark raving mad, like a severe case of schizophrenia. I just hate to think this will adversely affect my career for the rest of my life. Not only am I in the background for CYA counselor, but also in two different counties to be a probation officer.  more

Resolved Question: Did you get a gun ?

Obama Driving Surge in Gun Sales, Firearms Groups Say End-of-the-year statistics show background checks for firearms purchases rose sharply in the last three months of 2008. By Judson Berger FOXNews.com Friday, January 16, 2009 President-elect Barack Obama meets with his transition team Wednesday in Washington. (AP Photo) President-elect Barack Obama's election has spurred a surge in gun sales, firearms retailers and enthusiasts say, as gun owners brace for what they believe will be a new era of gun control in Washington. An electronic news service that covers outdoor news has even named Obama its "Gun Salesman of the Year." Firearms associations began to suspect that political considerations were driving gun sales late last year as the number of background checks increased. But end-of-year figures showed a big spike in background checks for the last three months of 2008, and in November, the month Obama was elected, the number of background checks was 42 percent greater than in November 2007. "It's not a hard tea leaf to read," said Jim Shepherd, publisher of the news service Outdoor Wire, which claims Obama's election has "frightened consumers into action." Obama has repeatedly stated that he supports Second Amendment rights and will not crack down on gun owners, and in June he said he agreed with the Supreme Court when it overturned the District of Columbia handgun ban. But gun groups are not convinced. They say Obama's legislative record in support of gun control, and his offhand remark during the primaries that small-town Americans are "bitter" and "cling to their guns," foretell a strict approach to firearms regulation during his presidency. A December poll from Southwick Associates found that 80 percent of hunters and shooters expect the new administration and a Democratic Congress will make purchasing firearms more difficult. "It's clear that gun owners and prospective gun owners are concerned about the incoming Obama administration and Congress," said Ted Novin, spokesman for the National Shooting Sports Foundation. According to FBI statistics, there were 12.7 million background checks on prospective gun buyers last year, compared with 11.2 million the year before. While checks typically increase toward the end of the year, they spiked sharply at the end of 2008. The figures show a 27 percent increase in the last three months of 2008 over 2007. "We always anticipate a spike .... This year compared to previous years, the last two months there was a significant increase," said FBI spokesman Paul Bresson. He said it's "possible" that fears about the economy and the incoming administration played a role, though he said the FBI cannot track the actual reason behind the background checks. Also, background checks are not a direct reflection of gun sales -- but since statistics on national gun sales are not kept the background checks are typically used as an indicator. "Speculation and conclusions that economic uncertainty or a certain political leadership spurs an increase in firearm sales is anecdotal," said one source at the Bureau of Alcohol Tobacco, Firearms and Explosives. But the ATF posted a notice recently saying it was running low on the self-disclosure forms needed when firearms purchases are made, "as a result of an unprecedented increase in demand" for the forms. Firearms associations appear to be stoking the purchasing frenzy. The National Rifle Association's Web site recently featured a column titled, "Ready to Defend Our Rights: Are gun owners going to be a high priority target for the Obama administration?" The Web page linked to another site devoted to Obama's gun control positions. "Obama would be the most anti-gun president in American history," the site says. Obama stated during the final leg of the campaign that he believes in the Second Amendment, and "I will not take your shotgun away. I will not take your rifle away. I won't take your handgun away." But gun rights advocates say one of their principal concerns is that the new administration and Congress will eventually reinstate an assault-weapons ban. Vice president-elect Joe Biden, as a senator, was a strong supporter of the assault-weapons ban, which was signed into law by President Clinton in 1994. Under the ban, which expired four years ago, domestic gun manufacturers were required to stop making semi-automatic assault weapons and ammunition clips holding more than 10 rounds, except for military or police use. While in the Illinois legislature, Obama backed a ban on semiautomatic weapons. Andrew Arulanandam, public affairs director at the NRA, said gun organizations are not urging members to stock up while they still can. "I think people are doing this on their own accord," he said. "We hope that the president keeps his campaign promises. Nothing would make us happier," he said. "But we think he is going to have a tough time ke  more

Resolved Question: I am getting called up from IRR for ADT in the big iStan as an 00F03, but I am an E5 SGT in ARNG. ?

Ok this is an odd situation. I recently completed my 6 year contract with the National Guard, ETS 11 Dec 2008. I turned my gear in to my unit in December and cleared everything. I assume this means I am IRR. I do not have my DD214 yet, the Personnel guy was not at drill. Meat of the question. I have orders on IPERMS for a transfer from my current unit and MOS to the State HQ and a new MOS. The PMOS is 00F30, which is MOS immaterial, not sure what that means. I was a 68W20, but my EMT expired this year because I was separating, thus I am not MOSQ, but I thought graduating Basic made you an "MOSQ" quasi-Infantry type. I am listed as a Hydrologist (X2). I was told by a friend that I was on an UMR for the Ag Dev Team deployment, but asked my company commander and he told me I was not. There are many things that confuse me. First: I am an E-5, hence 68W'20', but the orders are for OOF'30'. I am not promotable because I am a new E5. Does this mean my pay will be different? The MOS seems odd, but I do have a Bachelors in Hydrology. The Ag Teams are pulling people with agribusiness background. Second: I was not notified of this transfer or deployment status in mail, person, email or phone, I found out myself through an IPERMS. Third:I do not have a location, time, date to report to this new unit, the orders were effective in October. Finally I am unsure if I am stoploss/invol extend or IRR and going to get called up with my orders. Does this affect pay or benefits for me or my family. I have heard that involuntary call ups do get some extra pay, but the benefits are a little different, which just seems crazy. Of course I find this out on New Years Eve day and everyone has gone home for a 4 day weekend! Any advice would be appreciated because I googled the unit and there is a press release that they are shipping out in three weeks! I will check with my unit when they get it on Monday, but I am just spinning and want to settle down to enjoy New Years!!! Thank you so much for your help and Happy New Years. If you don't get the acronyms you can't answer the question. Besides if I wrote them all out it would be twice as long. As far as asking the command toward the end I said that I found out today and everyone is on a four day weekend.  more

Resolved Question: Here's my platform. Would you vote for me? why or why not?

My Republican Views: -Pro-patriot act (safety first) -Pro-life -Anti-Affirmative Action -Make it voluntary to pay into social security -Replace the irs with national sales tax -Require welfare recipients to pass drug tests My Democratic Views: -Against Iraq War -Pro-stem cell research -Gear tax cuts towards the middle class -Let gays marry, "To each his own." -Civil unions demonstrate "separate but equal" which is unconstitutional. -Increase public assistance to help those legitimately in need -Use death penalty less often -Pro-gun control, ban assualt weapons, require background checks, reasonable restrictions -Tax Churches -Raise standards for a business to be considered "non-profit" tax-exempt. My Independent Views: -Ban smoking in public places -Bailout was necessary -In favor of alternative to bailout: Instead of loaning big companies $700 billion...........give 7 million people each $100,000. The downside however, is that this would have to be a gift, not a loan. -Allow free trade; it may lose jobs for America, but it will bring us lower prices. We should be investing in professional jobs, not manufacturing jobs. edw I'll tell you why: Because less than 7 million people lost their jobs.  more

(E) Because of federal grants & special funding, the media in the US do not have to worry much about profit. 2. (D) citizens get more detailed & specific information about programs & policies than they could get from the print media. (E) public officials must do something bold or sufficiently colorful to gain free access to the broadcast media. 3. When Gary Hart ran for the Democratic nomination in 1987, he told the press to go ahead & follow him, because "they would be bored." The resulting sexual scandal that arose is an example of the media's role as . . . (A) a gatekeeper who influences what subjects become national political issues & for how long. (D) a referee who carefully balances coverage of all the candidates. (E) a watchdog who closely scrutinizes candidates' backgrounds & activities. 4. (A) because the president is one person & is views by the public as the center of gov't. (B) because the president has the ability to call news congerences, whereas members of Congress must act through their leaders (C) because the courts issue opinions that are difficult to understand, & it is difficult for the press to explain court decisions clearly (D) because congressional committee hearings are usually closed to the press & the public (E) the statement is inaccurate; Congress actually gets as much press coverage as the president does 8. Resolved Question: Was Obama's birth certificate checked before or after he received his security clearance?

Remember David Greenglass, who helped the Rosenbergs steal America's atomic bomb secrets? Remember Jonathan Pollard, a spy who get through a background check and received a top secret security clearance, and then stole massive amounts of classified information for foreign countries? There's precedent that shows that security procedures can fail, especially if things are helped along a bit by hidden powerful interests. So which of our national security watchdogs has seen Obama's original long form, signed birth certificate? Hm? Either Obama is a citizen of the United States, or he is not. This is an issue without shades of grey, and there is no such thing as "almost." Furthermore, there is also the fact that Obama was adopted by Lolo Soetoro during his childhood and received Indonesian citizenship by adoption. Indonesia doesn't allow dual citizenships, and therefore Obama would have given up any prior citizenships he had at that time. Remember: there's not only ONE challenge to Obama's citizenship status, but TWO of them!  more

Resolved Question: Military Security Clearance/ Background Questions.?

Hi, Thanks in advance! I am enlisting in the military and the MOS I want requires a SECRET Clearance. I have/had a juvenile record from when I was 17. I am currently 28. My case was dismissed, I was not found to be an adjudicate of the court, and the record is "sealed," expunged," "destroyed," "hidden." And every other word my lawyer could think of to indicate it is unavailable. My question is, do I disclose this to my recruiter? I know most will say "Yes! Of course! The Military will find EVERYTHING!" However, I am a Nationally Registered Paramedic in Los Angeles. As part of my licensing and certification I had to be fingerprinted to undergo 3 to 4 background checks from Local Agency level to FBI and DOJ (Department of Justice). All of which came back with "NO ARREST" status. If the FBI and DOJ do not have information on my expunged record how will, (or can), the DoD get it? From my understanding they can't, specifically because a SECRET clearance only does computer based background checks? I was told by the judge and lawyer to answer "NO," to any questions asking if I was ever arrested or charged. I answered NO on my National Registry DOJ and FBI forms. I have renewed my License 2x since then. What do you guys think on the matter? Are my records indeed expunged, or does the FBI and DOJ conduct very poor background checks? I do not want a waiver limiting my enlistment for a gross misunderstanding over a decade old. I would rather not enlist than enlist with a waiver and under certain conditions. Does anyone have, or know someone who has, a Secret Clearance who omitted any juvenile info (As instructed by the Judge) on their SF-86 that was "sealed?" ****** Please keep in mind, I am a NATIONALLY REGISTERED Paramedic and as such have undergone background checks by the FBI and DOJ. I am also State, County, and City Licensed and Registered and have also undergone background checks on State, County, and Local levels. I have even submitted fingerprints and background information to the DOT (Dept of Transportation.) On all background forms I stayed consistent with what the judge told me as a juvenile. Which is that I have never been arrested or charged. I waited roughly 6 weeks to get my background cleared by FBI and DOJ and a little bit less time for my County and Local Agency check. How do these background checks by FBI, DOJ, State, County, and Local Agency check differ from the background check for SECRET Clearance? ****If I now mention my juvenile record to the military, that can then lead to a slippery slope into my civilian career in which I have always contested that I have never been arrested or charged. Correct?  more

Check out the reply. Just too hot and so true.Did anyone read the paper last week (Mercury) Where the main headline stated the following? It's not too late for whites to say sorry for Apartheid...... ........Check the email that went around responding to the headline. It's a kick a$$ response!!! 'To the Previously Disadvantaged We are sorry that our ancestors were intelligent, advanced and daring enough to explore the wild oceans to discover new countries and develop them.We are sorry that those who came before us took you out of the bush and taught you that there was more to life than beating drums, killing each other and chasing animals with sticks and stones. We are sorry that they planned, funded and developed roads, towns, mines, factories, airports and harbors, all of which you now claim to be your long deprived inheritance giving you every right to change and rename these at your discretion. We are sorry that our parents taught us the value of small but strong families, to not breed like rabbits and end up as underfed, diseased, illiterate shack dwellers living in poverty. We are sorry that when the evil apartheid government provided you with schools, you decided they'd look better without windows or in piles of ashes. We happily gave up those bad days of getting spanked in our all white schools for doing something wrong and much prefer these days of freedom where problems can be resolved with knives and guns.We are sorry that it is hard to shake off the bitterness of the past when you keep on raping, torturing and killing our friends and family members, and then hide behind the fence of 'human rights' with smiles on your faces. We are sorry that we do not trust the government... We have no reason to be so suspicious because none of these poor "hard working intellectuals" have ever been involved in any form of "corruption or irregularities".We are sorry that we do not trust the police force and, even though they have openly admitted that they have lost the war against crime and criminals, we should not be negative and just ignore their corruption and carry on hoping for the best.We are sorry that it is more important to you to have players of colour in our national teams than winning games and promoting patriotism. We know that sponsorship doesn't depend on a team's success. We are sorry that our border posts have been flung open and now left you competing for jobs against illegal immigrants from our beautiful neighboring countries. All of them countries that have grown into economic powerhouses after kicking out the 'settlers'.We are sorry that we don't believe in witchcraft, beet root and garlic cures, urinating on street corners, virginity testing, slaughtering of bulls in our back yards, trading women for cattle and other barbaric practices.Maybe we just grew up differently. We are sorry that your medical care, water supplies, roads, railways and electricity supplies are going down the toilet because skilled people who could have planned for and resolved these issues had to be thrown away because they were of the wrong ethnic background and now have to work in foreign countries where their skills are highly appreciated. We are so sorry that we'd like this country to fulfill its potential so we can once again be proud South Africans. The Previously Advantaged' Ps. In the old regime...we had lights and water  more
