Michigan Businesses For Sale Questions and Answers
Resolved Question: Will the Obama crime family but Al Capone's house?
For sale: Six-room two-flat in Chicago's Park Manor neighborhood; ornate tile work; impressive brick exterior; an underground cellar big enough to hide some cash or ditch a tommy gun.
The home at 7244 S. Prairie Ave. once owned by mobster Al Capone and his family has hit the market for $450,000. It's a hefty sum considering similar two-flats in that working-class South Side neighborhood are selling for $180,000 to $230,000. But no other home in Chicago can match the history of the modest brick house that has had just two owners since Capone's mother died in 1952.
"I'm looking for people who would be interested in the historical value of this home," said Patrice Brazil, the Coldwell Banker agent who's listing it. "It's an excellent home, and it's in great shape."
Records show the Capones bought the home for $5,500 in 1923 after moving from Brooklyn, N.Y., where Al Capone's notorious business interests began. Capone centered his bootlegging, gambling and prostitution enterprises in Cicero and later moved them to the old Lexington Hotel at Cermak Road and Michigan Avenue. But he was a frequent guest of his mother's, famously barricading himself inside one December night in 1927 when police threatened to arrest him.

I would like to open a tire shop in michigan, it will not do alignments, it will simply replace tires with new and used tires (depending on the customer) and do tire balancing. BREAKING NEWS !!!
LEGISLATIVE ALERT !!!
The Americans With No Abilities Act
Washington , DC - (Dateline February 18, 2009)
President Barack Obama and the Democrat-controlled Congress are considering sweeping legislation that will provide new benefits for many Americans. The Americans With No Abilities Act (AWNAA) is being hailed as a major legislative goal by advocates of the millions of Americans who lack any real skills, knowledge or ambition.
"Roughly 50 percent of Americans do not possess the intelligence, competence and drive necessary to carve out a meaningful role for themselves in society," said California Senator Barbara Boxer - Democrat. "We can no longer stand by and allow People of Inability
(POI) to be ridiculed, passed over for promotions, or even worse - fired - for no reason except for their lack of any ability or motivation to do any given job. With this legislation, employers will no longer be able to grant special favors to a small group of workers, simply because they have some idea of what they are doing or a willingness to learn it."
In a Capitol Hill press conference, House Speaker Nancy Pelosi - Democrat, and Senate Majority Leader Harry Reid - Democrat - pointed to the success of the U.S. Postal Service, which has a long-standing policy of providing opportunity without regard to performance.
Approximately 74 percent of postal employees lack any job skills, making this agency the single largest U.S. employer of Persons of Inability. Harry Reid pointed also to the public school system as another long-time leader in the field of providing secure employment opportunities to POI.
Private-sector industries with good records of non-discrimination against POI include retail sales (72%), the airline industry (68%), and home improvement warehouse stores (65%). At the state government level, highway public works departments, and the Department of Motor Vehicles both have excellent records of hiring Persons of Inability (93%).
Under AWNAA, more than 25 million mid-level positions will be created, with important-sounding titles but little real responsibility, thus providing an illusory sense of purpose and performance while building self-esteem and providing more candidates who will eventually be promoted into actual senior management positions with even higher salaries and even fewer actual responsibilities.
Mandatory non-performance-based raises and promotions will be given so as to guarantee upward mobility for even the most unremarkable or unproductive employees. The legislation provides substantial tax breaks to corporations that promote a significant number of Persons of Inability into middle-management positions, and gives a tax credit to other businesses that agree to hire one clueless worker for every two talented hires. Utility and cable companies, followed closely by computer customer support departments, are lobbying to have past such hires become eligible for these tax incentives.
Finally, the AWNAA contains tough new measures to make it more difficult to discriminate against the non-abled, banning, for example, such blatantly discriminatory interview questions such as, "Do you have any particular skills, knowledge or experience that relate to this job?"
"As a Non-abled person, I can't be expected to keep up with people who have something going for them,"said Mary Lou Gertz, who lost her position as a lug-nut twister at the GM plant in Flint, Michigan, due to her chronic inability to remember "rightey tightey, lefty loosey." Gertz added, "I shouldn't have to be a rocket scientist to keep my job and this new law should be real good for people like me." With the passage of this bill, Gertz and millions of other untalented citizens will finally see a light at the end of the tunnel and be able to secure well-paying, tenured jobs just like other people who simply are more motivated and productive but otherwise identical to workers such as Gertz.
Said Senator Dick Durbin (Democrat-IL), "As a Senator with no abilities, I believe the same privileges and benefits that elected officials enjoy ought to be extended to every other American with no abilities. It is our duty as lawmakers to provide each and every American citizen, regardless of his or her inadequacy, with some sort of space to take up in this great nation and a good salary for doing so."
"You're supposed to sit on your *** and nod at stupid things.
Man, that's hard to do."

moreResolved Question: Is there a website to see where all or many US Chrysler dealerships are having a sale?
I just read in the Wall Street Journal that Chrysler is going to start charging their dealership fees for unsold new and used cars. Many dealerships say that they will have to start selling cars at a loss in order to stay in business. I'm not in the market for a new car, but if the deal is right I might buy. However, it would be nice to have one central location that lists dealerships that are having sales or individual car listings. A national site would be great, because I don't mind going out of state if the deal is right. I'm not too far away from Michigan, where I bet, there will be the most amount of cars being sold at rock bottom prices.
moreResolved Question: Did balance transfers 120 days before filing bankruptcy - will creditors come after me?
I am in the process of liquidating my failing internet business. I have no job or income once this is done. I will have barely enough to file Chapter 7 bankruptcy next month. My problem is that I thought I'd be able to continue my business, and did some balance transfers 120 days ago in hopes of good Holiday sales. Xmas is a bust this year. I know those debts would be automatically reinstated if it were less than 60 days.
I owe $34,000 I cannot pay back. I'm terrified that the credit card companies will come after me because I made the mistake of doing these balance transfers. Also, because I've been selling off old stock at a loss for the past two years, my yearly income after business expenses has been very low. I was still using my credit cards for business expenses until the end of September. I'm afraid the credit card companies will complain about that as well. I will be filing in Michigan, where personal bankruptcies are at al all-time high.
Does anyone have any experience with these issues of filing Chapter 7 being self-employed?
I will be seeing a lawyer in a few weeks, but it would help me to sleep at night if anyone could share some experiences or advice with me.

Britney's back!
Don’t call it a comeback; she’s been here for years.

moreResolved Question: Will my wages be garnished for property tax and default on mortgage?
Any experts, mortgage for closures, real estate, as i have heard several different answers, opposite answers from Realtors. In Michigan, i have tried to sell my home for 6 years. All payments and taxes have been paid on time. Each month the home falls in value and its value now is about 50% of what it use to be. If it does sell, I would need to bring to closing more than $400,000, that would include Realtor fees, because I owe much more than it is worth now. I do not have any of the $400,000 needed to bring to a closing. Only what I could borrow without collateral. I have a little money in a 401K, and that is it. I am paying living expenses for the family, costs to run the home etc. and bills from a previous business from a failed Michigan industry. I do not qualify for a bank short sale being told I cannot be approved for a short sale because of my income. The house is in need of much repair, so effects much including family health. When it sells, it will sell for land value. I do not have the money to fix it, so it cannot be leased out. I was also told by realtors not to put any money in the house even if possible, (which at this time is not possible) because of the falling prices and will only sell for land value in the end anyway. The taxes are approx. $20,000 a year and was told they will not be lowered, even though the home is worth land value, the city does not count it that way. If I find a home that is livable for my family, and start paying for that home, with a lease or what have you, - sellers in Michigan will do pretty much anything to sell, because their homes have been for sale for so long now, or even if we live in an apartment. If I find a place for my family that is livable and pay for those living expenses and then If I stop paying the mortgage on the current home, and stop paying property tax, will my wages be garnished for the unpaid mortgage? Will my wages be garnished for unpaid property taxes? What happens to the unpaid property taxes? If so, for either, is there a number of years that my wages will be garnished? or forever? Are the penalties and interested added on? Will there be any allowance for the new mortgage or apartment fees that I would be paying for my family to live in? I've tried to sell for several years, but now the value has dropped enough and the state of the home is not acceptable to live in and getting worse over the years along with family health. We need to move, but I don't know how to when I do not have the money to bring to a closing to sell and not accepted as a short sale canidate. I am open to hearing any solutions.
in response to one of the answers. If I do not qualify for a short sale, then I don't think I would qualify for bankruptcy???
As suggested, if I walk away, looks like I will be sued for the $400,000 plus I assume the property taxes, plus by the time the mortgage company will be able to sell the home, which would be possibly a couple years or more, values will have dropped that much more and then penalties and interest on property tax and I assume penalities on mortgage, so lets say they end up suing me for $500,000. I think this would be garnished from my wages, correct? If that is the case, then it will be hard to pay for the new living expenses and housing. Is there a limit of years that they could garnish my wages? Can they take any of my 401k. Bankrupt is much worse on a credit history than for closure i assume and since I have an income, I do not think I am allowed to go bankrupt, correct?
Is there a limit to how many years they can garnish my wages? A limit to how much per month that they can garnish? Are interest added on for all the years it will take me to pay it back by garnishing my wages, or interest added on for the years it will take them to sell the property?
If i do walk away, and my wages are garnished, is that money tax deductable because I am paying a mortgage back. If I have to pay the mortgage anyway on a for-closure, then is there any other solutions?

Obama may break bent economy
By Dick Morris and Eileen McGann
Tuesday, September 23, 2008 -
Whatever is left of the economy after the current round of crisis interventions by the Fed could go down the drain if Barack Obama is elected and carries out his plans for sharp increases in taxation. Even if Obama does not understand the linkage, most Americans do and will turn sharply against Obama’s tax plans if John McCain hammers away at the risk they pose for us all.
During the Great Depression, Congress raised taxes sharply in the Revenue Act of 1932. The top rate went from 25 percent to 63 percent. As a result, the real Gross Domestic Product dropped by 13.3 percent and unemployment rose from 15.9 percent to 23.6 percent.
In 1990, the first President Bush famously broke his “read my lips, no new taxes” pledge of 1988 and raised the federal gasoline tax and federal excise taxes, and imposed a 10-percent surtax on the top income bracket, raising its taxes to 31 percent. The recession that followed in 1991-1992 cost him re-election.
It is obvious that increasing capital gains taxes by a minimum of one-third and possibly doubling them, both of which Obama has proposed, would send a signal to investors to keep their money under the mattress. Who would buy stock knowing that the tax on any profits he or she will make is going to go up sharply if Obama becomes president?
Look at what happened just last year in Michigan. Democratic Gov. Jennifer Granholm raised taxes on almost everything. Income taxes shot up 11.5 percent, and the state’s 6 percent sales tax was expanded to dozens of new services, like investment advice, janitorial services, landscaping, ski lifts and carpet cleaning.
The $1.75 billion tax package shook the economy to its foundations. Michigan became the only one of the 50 states with a shrinking gross domestic product. The value of all goods and services produced in the state fell by 0.5 percent, while the national GDP rose by 3.4 percent. The state fell from 23rd in GDP to 35th. Taxes caused a disaster.
In a strong economy, Obama’s proposed tax increases would raise questions. In a weak economy, they portend a catastrophe. It would be like bleeding a sick patient, the medicine of 200 years ago, depriving him of blood even as he needs more, not less, circulating through his arteries.
moreResolved Question: What is Gov. Jennifer Granholm going to debate Biden about?
Gov Jennifer Granholm (D MI) is going to "play" Palin in a practice debate with Joe Biden. What is she going to debate?
1. How she has single handed run business out of MI.
2. How she turned a 385million dollar surplus into a deficit.
3. How she rode her bike to work to show how to conserve gas, now that people are and tax revenues are down she wants to raise the state sales tax to 7percent. (I guess instead of tax on one thing taxing EVERYTHING is better).
4. How she sold Toyota a old prison property to build a tech center for 200million and "brought 400 jobs to MI", gave Toyota huge tax breaks to move here and forced the city and county to put the infrastructure in place for Toyota. The 400 jobs were already in place within Toyota they just needed a place to work, so no new jobs in a bleeding state. Even though a developer offered 685 million for the same parcel, would have put retail, office, and housing on this property, bringing Jobs (retail), economic growth, and tax revenue. Did I mention the extra 485million that the state would have gotten just from the sale? I guess 200million and 400 jobs looked good for the election ads.
5. How she refused to drop the single business tax allowing small business the chance to grow and hire more out of work Michigan citizens.
6. How she sat on her hands while the Mayor of Detroit mad the city look stupid once again, and cost the tax payers hundreds of thousands of dollars to prosecute him, and millions of dollars in investments for the city, just to take a deal and leave anyway to avoid a lengthy jail sentence.
6. Will Biden show how much more qualified a woman would be than him as VP? If you did not catch his quote about Hillary being more qualified pick than him look it up.
7. Or lastly how the top ten most impoverished cities in the US have and have had democratic leadership
Detroit, MI (1st on the poverty rate list) hasn't elected a Republican mayor since 1961;
Buffalo, NY (2nd) hasn't elected one since 1954;
Cincinnati, OH (3rd)... since 1984;
Cleveland, OH (4th)... since 1989;
Miami, FL (5th) has never had a Republican Mayor;
St. Louis, MO (6th).... since 1949;
El Paso, TX (7th) has never had a Republican Mayor;
Milwaukee, WI (8th)... since 1908;
Philadelphia, PA (9th)... since 1952;
Newark, NJ(10th)... since 1907.
What do you think?
And please think slurs and rhetoric are boring.
Thank you
moreResolved Question: If you accidentally overcharge a customer do you really owe them 5X the overcharged amount?
Today a customer came in to my store showing that we overcharged her for a sale item. The difference between the price charged and the actual sale price was about $9.00, and it really was just an honest mistake, which was obvious when you saw how the item was rung up (we do discounts manually, and the discount was applied as 15% off of the original item, rather than changing the item price to a flat $15.00--it was very busy while the customer was in the store and the person ringing her up must have just been distracted and rushed).
I apologized for her inconvenience, and as the manager I refunded her the difference and offered her 50% off on some other small items she purchased. When she left she was satisfied, but when she first came in, even as I started to apologize, she began screaming at me that it was Michigan state law that when a business overcharges a customer for an item, the business owes the customer 5 times the amount overcharged, paid in cash.
This sounds pretty odd to me. I used to be a legal assistant major, and I've taken lots of higher level business law classes, all focusing specifically on michigan state law. I've never heard anything like this.
Another customer was in the store and said she believed that something like that was true as well, but she didn't think it was as high as 5 times the overcharge. I would understand how the law could say something like twice the overcharge, or 3 times the overcharge, but 5 times seems really absurd.
The only other thing I could think of would be that these women had heard of a judge ordering a business to pay 5 times as restitution if a customer had taken a business to court over this.
I've done a little research about this, but I haven't been able to find anything listed in Michigan State Law regarding this. If anyone knows for sure (this of course must be backed up with legal documentation) whether this is true or not, please let me know.

moreResolved Question: Has violence against Americans increased because of the immigration issues?
Lawmakers are weighing in and calling for Newsom's resignation as well as pundits, media and opinion editorials declaring that they believe that Newsom as well as other officials should be held legally responsible for being complicit in the death of the Bologna father and sons.http://wwwwakeupamericans-spree.blogspot.com/2008/07/san-francisco-sanctuary-city-shielded.htmlNews that SHOULD be presented by all the major, TV and radio networks, the BEATING DEATH OF A TWO-YEAR OLD GIRL BY HER OWN GRANDFATHER, is given in only 116 words on the website of a local, TV station in Oklahoma City. Now whyyyy would midstream media “journalists” like Nancy Grace, Wolf Blitzer and Katie Couric not pick up this story? That’s right, you guessed it, it’s an ILLEGAL ALIEN who murdered the little girl. And telling the truth about illegal aliens to the American people is bad for Big Business and Democrats. And besides, it’s “racist” to speak honestly about “undocumented immigrants”. The killer, ILLEGAL ALIEN from Guatemala, Herman Marzelo Vail Bailon, is a 32-year old GRANDFATHER, who just couldn’t keep his hands off the little girl. Police detained the ILLEGAL ALIEN SCUMBAG for questioning on Saturday after they were called to an Oklahoma City motel room where employees had been asked to help a choking toddler. But police say the presence of blood in the room indicated there was something more sinister happening. Police arrested the ALIEN PUKE on a child abuse complaint. Doctors then noticed bruising on Liliana’s body and further examination revealed the girl’s skull had been fractured and that she had suffered other injuries. AMERICA, DON’T EXPECT TO EVER HEAR ABOUT THIS AGAIN.
In Michigan, ILLEGAL ALIEN, Rodrigo Delacruz-Encarnacion, killed 52-year old, William O’Brien, when the unlicensed, illegal alien with fake ID turned into the path of O’Brien, causing O’Brien’s Harley-Davidson, motorcycle to smash into the invader’s van. The illegal alien then tried to escape, forcing witnesses to detain the killer until police arrived.
The denverpost says, “Driver identified in I-70 crash”, when what they SHOULD be saying is. “DRUNK ILLEGAL ALIEN KILLS HER OWN FRIEND”. A man was pronounced dead Friday night after being ejected from a sport utility vehicle carrying eight people involved in an alcohol-related crash off of Interstate 70 in Eagle County, according to the Colorado State Patrol. Jose De Jesus Trinidad-Esparza, 19, was pronounced dead at the scene. It is unknown where Trinidad-Esparza resides, the patrol reported. The driver has been identified as Lenora Hernandez, 20, of Avon, Colo. She faces numerous charges, including vehicular homicide, careless driving causing bodily injuries, driving under the influence and no driver’s license. Immigration and Customs Enforcement agents found that Hernandez was an illegal alien, according to the patrol.

Illegal immigrant charged in fatal motorcycle crash in Holland blog.mlive.com
HOLLAND (Michigan)– An illegal immigrant who allegedly caused a fatal crash by turning in front of a motorcyclist was charged Thursday with trying to leave the scene of the deadly collision. Rodrigo Delacruz-Encarnacion, 25, is jailed on a $100,000 bond following his arraignment in Holland District Court on the felony, which is punishable by up to 15 years in prison.
Police say Delacruz-Encarnacion is responsible for killing William O’Brien, 52, of Holland in an 8 p.m. Wednesday crash. O’Brien was driving his 1996 Harley-Davidson south on Butternut Drive when the suspect’s minivan turned into the path of his motorcycle.
O’Brien could not avoid the crash, and struck the passenger side of the van. He died at the scene. His family declined to comment on the accident.
Ottawa County sheriff’s Lt. Steve Kempker said witnesses had to detain Delacruz-Encarnacion at the scene of the crash until police arrived. He was arrested and taken to the Ottawa County Jail.
The suspect has been in the country illegally since the spring and has been working odd jobs and living in migrant camps, police said. He allegedly had fraudulent identification when he was arrested.
Authorities believe Delacruz-Encarnacion is a risk for fleeing the area since he has no ties to Holland.
Driver identified in I-70 crash denverpost.com
The patrol reported that none of the passengers had ID on them.
At approximately 11:50 p.m Friday, Hernandez lost control of a 1999 Ford Expedition heading westbound on I-70 and ran off the right side of the road. The vehicle rolled over two full times, ejecting Trinidad-Esparza.
He was not wearing a seatbelt. The seven survivors suffered minor to moderate injuries and were treated and released from Vail Valley Medical Center. One of the passengers, Karen Rosales, 22, of Edwards, Colo., was found to have a $5,000 arrest warrant for assault and weapons charges, according to the patrol. No other vehicles were reported to be involved. http://reportanddeport.wordpress.com/2008/07/24/illegal-aliens-kill-2yo-girl-kill-motorcycle-rider-eject-and-kill-friend/
TOMBSTONE — A Department of Public Safety officer was assaulted by an illegal immigrant following a traffic stop Thursday, the agency said Friday.
The vehicle, which had been pulled over for unsafe lane use, stopped and then sped away as the officer approached the vehicle, stopping in a dirt pullout, according to the DPS. The driver, also an illegal immigrant, tried to run, then the officer tried to restrain him, at which time the officer was attacked by a passenger who attempted to choke him. After the officer broke free, the men fled.
Six other illegal immigrants were in the vehicle and held at gunpoint by theAs the Illegal Immigration issue has taken a back-burner in this years Presidential election, the effects of open borders and a broken immigration system still linger on the American people.
Just the other day, Tony Bologna and his two sons were shot to death after their car came close to another car driven by illegal alien felon Edwin Ramos. Ramos, 21, an illegal alien from El Salvador, simply pulled out his gun and killed these men in cold blood. Just last March, San Francisco police arrested Ramos on a gun charge and already had two other felony convictions before that. However, due to San Francisco’s “sanctuary city” policy, the city officials did not alert Homeland Security about Ramos.
According to San Francisco Mayor Gavin Newsom, “We are standing up to say to all of our residents, we don’t care what your status is in terms of legal certification.”
Since the shooting, Newsom has rescinded part of the sanctuary policy, but it is far too late for the Bologna family.
How many times does this have to happen to American families? How many people have to suffer for the Federal government to step in and secure our borders?
Deptford woman killed, illegal driver held on DWI, death by auto charges
by South Jersey News Online Friday July 25, 2008, 11:11 AM
FRANKLIN TWP. -- A 51-year-old Deptford Township woman died Thursday from injuries she received when her car was hit by an illegal immigrant who was driving drunk and with no license, police said.
The crash occurred at about 5:35 p.m.
Mijail L. Hernandes, 24, of Lake Worth, Fla., was driving a 2000 Chevrolet Suburban west on Route 40 and allegedly failed to stop at a red lght, police said.
The Suburban hit a 2008 Hyundai Tucson driven by Yvonne M. Pennewell, which was traveling south on Main Road, Route 555, said police.
The Hyundai was forced off the Hyundai. Pennewell and her passenger, Crystal D. Ashmore, 25, of Vineland, had to be freed from the car by rescue crews. Both women were airlifted to Cooper Medical Center in Camden.
Pennewell died at Cooper. Ashmore was listed as being in serious condition, said police.
Hernandes was taken to South Jersey Regional Health Center in Vineland, treated for minor ijuries and released.
Hernandes was charged with death by auto, aggravated assault with a motor vehicle, unlicensed driver resulting in death, unlicensed driver resulting in serious bodily injury, driving while intoxicated, failure to obey a traffic device, reckless driving, unlicensed driver and failure to wear a seat belt.
Hernandes was committed to the Gloucester County Jail in Woodbury in default of $250,000 full cash bail.
Police said the federal Immigration and Customs Enforcement department has placed a detainer on Hernandes, as well.http://www.nj.com/southjersey/index.ssf/2008/07/deptford_woman_killed_illegal.html

“The trial justice was faced with a young woman who entered the United States illegally, without notice to her family, and who then failed to protect her child in face of horrific abuse and continually lied to protect the abuser,” the court stated.
Milan Azar, Lopez-Navor’s lawyer, said the case still haunts him. “In all my years as a lawyer, very few cases really stick with me but this one does. It was very sad.”
Kevin Aucoin, chief legal counsel for DCYF, acknowledged that it is an emotionally wrenching case. “It certainly is a tragic case.
“But this is a case where DCYF’s paramount concern had to do with the safety of the children, Alexis and Victoria,” said Aucoin. An illegal immigrant charged with killing two people in a South Richmond car crash now faces a $2.3 million wrongful-death suit filed by the family of one of the victims.
The administrators of the estate of Kathryn L. Jones, who was fatally injured in the May 24 wreck, also has named as a defendant the construction company for which Carmen Alejandro Garcia-Hernandez was employed.
Garcia-Hernandez was driving a pickup truck registered to R.J. Biringer Construction Co. Inc., whose owner, Ronald J. Biringer, is under federal indictment for transporting illegal immigrants.
Richmond police allege that Garcia-Hernandez was driving the truck when it ran off Snead Road and hit a parked car that spun around and fatally injured two people standing next to it, Jones, 44, and Joseph Owens, 40, of Alberta in Brunswick County.
Jones, a native of South Hill and the mother of two children, lived in the neighborhood were the crash occurred and was attending a house-warming party when she was struck, said Charles H. Cuthbert Jr., her attorney. She had been employed several years as a security guard for Wackenhut Corp., he said.
After the crash, police said Garcia-Hernandez, 28, tried to flee the scene on foot, but witnesses detained him until officers arrived. He was indicted June 9 on two counts of aggravated involuntary manslaughter, driving while intoxicated and felony hit-and-run driving.
According to the lawsuit, Garcia-Hernandez had a blood-alcohol level of 0.15, nearly twice the legal limit of 0.08.
His employer, Ronald Biringer, was indicted March 19 by a federal grand jury in Richmond on a single count of transporting illegal immigrants to Fort Lee. He was arrested a day later and released on bond.http://www.inrich.com/cva/ric/news.apx.-content-articles-RTD-2008-07-18-0234.html
The governor cited the recent arrest in Providence of Marco Riz, an illegal immigrant arrested several times before he allegedly kidnapped and raped a Warwick woman, as an example of the need for his executive order.
Carcieri’s order requires law enforcement and correctional officers to work closely with immigration officials to identify illegal immigrants.
“Illegal immigration is a huge issue in our state and around the country,” Carcieri told Fox News host Bill O’Reilly. “This case just epitomized that and, unfortunately, the City of Providence, which is our capital city, has not climbed on board. They are in the dark ages, if you will.”http://www.projo.com/news/content/Carcieri_oreilly_07-08-08_0IAPJDR_v17.3f5d00d.html
KENANSVILLE — Two men targeted through investigations into methamphetamine sales in Duplin County are now in custody after separate searches at their homes collectively yielded nearly a kilogram of methamphetamine, $30,000 in cash and seven firearms.
One of the men, Benito Rayo Zavala of 3262 Hwy. 111/903, Albertson, is facing a long list of felony charges at the county level, while federal charges are pending against Ernesto Rayo Morales of 126 L.G. Westbrook Lane, Albertson. The men’s ages have not been confirmed by local authorities.
Morales is an illegal immigrant and Zavala is also believed to be in the country illegally, Duplin County Sheriff Blake Wallace said in a recent press conference. The sheriff noted that both arrests were made as a result of probes by the multi-agency Duplin County Drug Enforcement Task Force, which executed search warrants at separate homes in the Albertson area earlier this month.
Zavala was arrested on July 7 in the more recent case, when an investigation into the possible manufacturing and selling of methamphetamine culminated in a search of Zavala’s home.

moreVoting Question: How do I know if I need to charge sales tax?
I signed up to be an independent consultant for a stationary company in order to order party invitations. Since the invites went out, I've had many people interested in buying similar products. The company does not charge sales tax on their products and also does not give any guidance to their "resellers" as to whether or not we need to charge clients sales tax. I don't plan on turning this into a home based business, just selling to a few friends and family for a slight profit. But I certainly don't want to get into tax trouble! I'm just unsure of whether to charge sales tax and how to go about doing so. I live in Michigan where we have a 6% sales tax....
moreResolved Question: Do i need to charge Michigan sales tax for my computer repair business?
moreResolved Question: Help! It's tax time and I am need advice about my small business.?
Early in 07, I planned to form an LLC in Michigan,as a sole proprietor. I registered a DBA, and got a federal tax id, but that is all. Is it a business at this point, or do I need to submit articles of incorporation, to make it official? I formed it because I wanted to start a business renovating distressed homes as well as doing home staging and home improvements for others. I pulled out my 401k and purchased a vacant home at an auction and renovated it to kick off this business. If I put the money from the sale into a business checking, but then pull out money as needed for living expenses not related to the business, will I have to pay taxes on what I pull out of it, as it may be viewed as paying myself income? During this time, as far as my "real" job goes, I have lost income this year and my credit has gone from great to horrible and I fear that my creditors will sue. Would funds in a business acct be protected so I can continue?
to clarify...the funds put into the business aren't taxable, but if, for example, $300 per month were pulled out and not used for marketing/epenses, but instead, as living expenses, would they be treated as taxable income? If not, please explain why. Is if because it's a sole proprietorship, so it all washes out in the end?
The money from the sale was not profit, but what is left of my 401k that I pulled out to buy it with.

moreResolved Question: Need Advice on a New Career?
Here is my dilema: I am burnt out, I need a new job, and I also need to find a career.
For ten years, I have been at several jobs, all of which involved appointment setting, the call center and telesales (to various degrees). Talking on the phones all day long and dealing with demanding and unreasonable people has finally taken it's toll. I have been in my current postion as a mortgage loan officer for over five years and there is the constant threat of being written up or fired for not meeting sales goals and the ever constant change in the compensation (my income has dropped drastically to the point that I am beginning to live from paycheck to pay check--and I have always lived within my means).
I have a BA in English Lit. I really do not know what kind of field I want to go into, but I have to get out of the mortgage business. I really do not want to teach because the Michigan Public Schools are horrible: the teachers are always getting laid off and the pay is ridiculous. All I know is that sales is too stressful for me and I need to find a new position--but more importantly, a new career.
The problem is that I do not know what I want to do with my life. I am in my 30's and feel like I am having a mid-life crisis. I have researched positions like becoming a professor (takes too long and not enough pay), Med or Vet school (I don't think I am smart enough), Financial field (hate Corporate America), Physical Therapy (Michigan market seems to be flooded with outsourcing agencies; job market does not seem to be stable), and working with animals (I would love to do this, but not enough pay).
If someone could offer some advice--any advice--I'd be grateful. Right now, I feel totally worthless and clueless. Or even if you are in the same position as I, please write back. I need to feel that I am not alone (misery loves company, I guess).

moreResolved Question: Feeling Pinch, Stores Woo Lagging Shoppers. Evaluate Article?
Lackluster sales in this holiday season have retailers scrambling to wring a few last dollars from procrastinators by slashing prices, extending hours and wooing customers more persistently than last year.
The moves show that retailers' strategy during this final weekend before Christmas -- when about 10% of holiday sales are expected to take place -- has become increasingly reliant on the same promotions and marathon hours once unique to the "Black Friday" weekend following Thanksgiving. But the discounts also reveal the pinch stores are in this year as the credit crunch, rising gas prices and winter storms have taken a toll on companies dependent on end-of-year sales.
The tough economy has left aisles more empty this year. Total foot traffic at U.S. retail outlets took an 8.9% dive during the second full week of December, compared with the same period last year, according to an estimate from ShopperTrak RCT Corp., which bases its numbers on a formula that involves an electronic count of shoppers in malls and other retail outlets nationwide.
A bright spot, however, has been online, where aggressive discounting and cut-rate deals on fast shipping have contributed to a surge in spending. From Nov. 1 to Dec. 16, online shoppers spent $23.5 billion, 19% higher than the corresponding days last year, according to comScore Inc., a Reston, Va., market research firm that tracks Web spending and traffic. Videogames, consoles and accessories are the fastest-growing category, more than doubling from the comparable period last year. Furniture, appliances and equipment ranks second, up 63%, while event tickets and consumer electronics are up 29% and 24%, respectively.
Now, a final push is on, both online and in stores. Web retailers continued to hunt for business by cutting shipping charges to seal deals before the pre-Christmas shipping window closes. Shoebuy.com, a Boston-based unit of IAC/InterActive Corp. offered free express shipping until today. Online handbag merchant eBags upgraded purchases made by Wednesday from standard shipping to two-day air-shipping through UPS for no extra cost.
Brick-and-mortar stores, meanwhile, retooled their hours for the weekend, hoping to spark their own shopping flurry. J.C. Penney Co. stores are staying open until midnight tonight and Saturday. Select Macy's Inc. stores on the East Coast will stay open nonstop throughout the weekend -- 107 hours straight for one branch in Queens. And New York-based FAO Schwarz made discounts of 25% to 50% on certain toys. Ed Schmults, the chief executive officer at FAO Schwarz, said that while foot traffic was up, business had not been as booming throughout the season as he hoped.
The National Retail Federation, a trade group, is predicting just 4% in sales growth for 2007, the smallest growth rate in five years. Britt Beemer, chairman of America's Research Group, paints an even grimmer picture: He lowered his forecast of 2% retail sales growth to 1.8%, his lowest forecast in nearly 10 years.
In the apparel category, men's clothing has showed modest single-digit growth through the first 20 days of the shopping season, according to MasterCard Spending Pulse, a unit of MasterCard Advisors, which tracks spending of all types. But women's apparel -- which last year constituted three times the sales of men's -- has been a major disappointment, as shoppers have avoided big purchases. Sales were down 5.7% from the same time last year.
Retailers have responded with a flurry of price cuts, but large inventory remains in some stores. One of Gap Inc.'s Old Navy stores in downtown Chicago on Wednesday had piles of festive sweaters marked down to $20 from $36.50. Women's coats still stuffed the racks, despite being already marked down 50%, and its signature "performance fleece," also half off, was stacked eight shelves high.
The bad tidings for apparel have left some retailers looking for other items to push. At Banana Republic, also owned by Gap, $64 gift sets of its perfumes, body creams and shower creams were marked down 30%. Gold-boxed gift sets of a new line of bath products at Ann Taylor Stores Corp. stores were discounted to $19.50 from $29. At Limited Brands Inc.'s Victoria's Secret, stores were piled with beauty gift sets, many 40% off.
Meanwhile luxury goods are expected to have a good season this year, and retail consultant Frederick Crawford of AlixPartners predicts "pockets of good news" for high-end retail. For brands like Prada and Gucci, he expects to see 5% to 7% growth.
According to retail surveys, electronics sales were down 0.5% in the three-week period between Nov. 18 and Dec. 9 compared to a year ago, according to Stephen Baker, vice president of industry analysis for market watcher NPD Group. He said consumers in recent years have been delaying purchases until closer to Christmas, which may account for the slowdown.
Indeed, Angela Smith has waited until the last week to make her purchases. A 39-year-old bank employee in Dallas, Ms. Smith said she is waiting for prices to drop further as well as trying to spend less. For her three nephews, ages 12, 8 and 7, she plans to buy remote-controlled cars, which Wal-Mart Stores Inc. initially priced at $59 and has since dropped to $49. "I am going to swing by this weekend and see if they are going to take it down one more time," says Ms. Smith, who was shopping for a co-worker's present at her local Wal-Mart midweek.
Home-furnishings retailers, fighting the weak housing market, are being particularly aggressive with their promotions this year. At Williams-Sonoma Inc.'s Pottery Barn store on Chicago's Michigan Avenue, Christmas-tree-shaped candles were discounted 50%, and holiday garlands of fake evergreen branches were 30% off. Wrapped gifts such as silver jewelry boxes, also marked down 30%, were stacked high Wednesday afternoon.
Home-improvement outfits like Lowe's Cos. Inc. and Home Depot Inc. are destined to be hardest hit, says AlixPartners' Mr. Crawford. "Consumers are absolutely showing us that they will be delaying discretionary purchases" like gear to remodel a kitchen, he said.
A boom-bust pattern is typical after Thanksgiving's Black Friday discounts, which encourages a flurry of purchases early but leads to a tapering off in early December, killing shopping momentum. This year the pattern was more pronounced: A double-digit sales surge on Black Friday exceeded retailers' expectations; but come December, throngs of shoppers didn't return.
There was one exception, however: online retail. Web merchants have discounted and promoted heavily this season, say industry analysts. Shipping promotions have been particularly popular. Sixty-eight percent of surveyed Web retailers said they are offering express shipping promotions this year, up from 49% last year, according to Scott Silverman, executive director of Shop.org, an online retail trade group and unit of National Retail Federation.
As the boom continues, these companies are becoming increasingly creative to draw customers. This year Ice.com, a Montreal-based Internet jeweler, has rolled out new videos to promote products and free overnight shipping. It has experimented with new marketing tricks such as buying front-page ads on Microsoft Corp.'s MSN and Yahoo Inc.'s Web sites this week. Ice.com even tried to tap influencers to drive word-of-mouth among blogs, magazine mentions and celebrities.

I stood in between the drivers side door and the door opening of the truck and told him he better not put anything in the ground on my property or try to sell my house. He drug me down the driveway. I called the police immediately. The State police responded by taking the offender statement first, then mine. The case did go to the prosecutors office.
Nevertheless I went to the hospital later that day because I could not feel my child moving. I went back home later that evening. My ex was at on my property with the State Police.I told them there were things in my shed that did not belong to him and they told me to sit down and he could take whatever he wanted out of my shed(without a shred of proof any of it belong to hime). He took two truck loads of my property.
Next series of events take place quite some time later.
In 2005 I was summoned to family court for Tuscola County Michigan for failure to pay the $30,000 ordered in the property judgement in the divorce. I was ordered to pay again and he was oredered to quick claim the house and 2 acres, and I was to do the same for the 13acres. He would not cooperate and because of that I would not pay.
He then petitioned for judicial sale of the house. I countered by placing the the home in bankruptcy. However, he still harrasses be about payment. I did have a renter in the home. He went over to my house and told the renter the house belong to him and that he was selling it, and she needed to get out.divorced 2002 pro se. 15 acres of property with home is divided. moreVoting Question: Can I legally provide financing for a vehicle I sell?
I am a part time Used Car dealer. I do it in my spare time, and use tools such as Ebay, Craigslist, etc. I do not have a property or established business. I deal with cheap vehicles, mostly $2000 and under. I've had over 20 successful deals, all with happy buyers. In these 20 instances, all vehicles have been paid in full upon pickup.
Recently, I have been asked to provide financing on a vehicle I have for sale, which got me thinking. The vehicle in question is a 2001 Crown Victoria, with an NADA Value of upwards of $4500. I am taking in a partial trade, and the deal was that the buyer would pay $700 in cash to supplement the deal.
The buyer does not have the $700 in cash. He offered to pay me $150/month for 6 months to cover the cost. My question is what can I do legally to secure my interest in the car? Can I place a lien on the title, though I am not a bank? I am in Michigan.
Michigan Law allows me to sell 5 per year without a dealers license.
I normally sell less than 5 per year, therefore I am not in violation.
moreResolved Question: Your Opinion - Should we change Realtors?
So hubby and his brothers/sisters all own their mothers house close to Lake Michigan. A year ago last January, we put it up for sale....almost two years later and it is still for sale. We started at 96,900 and are now down to 73,000. We have put money into the house but it still needs a little work and some personal touches. My question is, do you think if we take it off the market for a short period and put it back on with another Realtor, we would have better luck?
For the full 21 months the house has been for sale, we have had the same Realtors. I personally really like them and they are always helping me when I need anything. I had an opportunity to work with them on a business level as well and they are just great people. Even hubby is now suggesting that maybe we need a new realtor. His brothers/sisters are pushing him, but I don't know. I really like the ones we have, they just havent sold our headache!
We have talked to our realtors and others....no one can figure out why this house isnt selling. It has local realtors stumped. I have also asked what it will take to sell. We are slowly making improvements but it would help if it was all done at once, but with hubby and I working full time, it gets difficult. His family wont help one bit, but the hads will be extended once it sells I am sure!
We signed two contracts with the realtor. A one year contract in January of 2005 and a six month contract in February 2007. It is four blocks from the beach in a great neighborhood. It is not the cheapest house for sale.

moreResolved Question: elvis alive?
The only time I feel alive... is when I'm in front of my audience, my people. That's the only time I really feel like I'm human."
"Long after I'm gone, what I did today will be heard by someone. I just want them to get the best of what I had." (Elvis Presley)
Is Elvis Alive ?
There are many reasons to believe that Elvis Presley is dead. When the only arguments to believe otherwise come from crazed fans and supermarket tabloids, it is easy to dismiss the possibility that Elvis is still among us. However, the circumstances surrounding Elvis' alleged death are quite mysterious and beg closer attention. As it turns out, there are many concrete reasons to believe that Elvis is still alive.
The Gravesite.
Elvis' name is misspelled on his headstone. Elvis' full name is Elvis Aron Presley, but on his grave his middle name is spelled incorrectly with two a's. His father would not have let this happen. When Elvis was born, his name was misspelled on his birth certificate, and his father went to great lengths to get it put right. The unique spelling of Elvis' name was important to his family.
Elvis' current "resting place" is in between his father and his grandmother and not next to his mother where he had adamantly requested. It is doubtful that the people close to him would allow these things to happen. Elvis is a superstitious man, enough so that he wouldn't tempt fate by putting his real name on a tombstone, or violate the ground next to his mother until he was ready to be placed there for good.
Death Certificate.
Elvis was very vain, and he was embarrassed about his recent weight gain, an astonishing 50 pounds in the month before his so-called death. Even though he weighed about 250 pounds at the time of his "death," his death certificate lists him at a spry 170 pounds. The original death certificate disappeared, and the current death certificate is dated two months after his alleged death.
The Wax Body Theory.
This argument is very convincing when the facts are considered. Elvis' coffin required several pall bearers because it weighed 900 pounds. Attendants of the funeral reported that the air around the coffin was rather cool. It is suspected that the coffin contained an air conditioning unit to keep a wax body cool, a wax body that was a replica of Elvis designed to fool funeral-goers. And how did the Presley family get a 900 pound, custom made coffin ready for a funeral that was held on the day after his death? It takes a lot of time to build such an elaborate coffin.
And why was the funeral so quickly? Some say that the immediacy was intended to make it as difficult as possible for the people who were Elvis' biggest fans to attend the proceedings. It could be a concern that they might recognize the flaws in the wax replica.
Elvis was an 8th degree black belt whose hands were rough with calluses, yet the body in the coffin had hands that were soft and pudgy. The body in the coffin had a pug nose and arched eyebrows {unlike Elvis} and most importantly, one of the sideburns on the "corpse" was loose and falling off. A hairdresser later reported gluing the sideburn back on the body.
Unusual Behavior.
Two hours after Elvis' death was announced publicly, a man who reportedly looked remarkably like Elvis purchased a ticket for Buenos Aeries, paid in cash, and used the name John Burrows: the same name Elvis had used as an alias several times before.
Elvis had a few books that were considered to be his most prized possessions. He had a bible, several pharmaceutical books, books on death, and most importantly Chiro's Book of Numbers and The Autobiography of Yogi which I will explain more about later. After Elvis's death was announced, these books disappeared and were never recovered.
In the weeks preceding his alleged death, Elvis' actions were not those of a man who was about to embark on an extensive US tour. He ordered no new suits despite having gained 50 pounds since his last tour, and he bid "adios" at his last show in Hawaii. He had never done this before. Adios, like the French adieu, has the significance of being a final good-bye as opposed to an "I'll be seeing you on my next tour" kind of good-bye.
Others were intrigued by Elvis' decision to sign a lucrative TV deal with NBC that would cover the tour. It was unprecedented for a network to pay such a large amount up front, in cash, for such a deal. Many wonder why Elvis even agreed to the deal since his vanity discouraged him from making public appearances due to his weight gain.
RCA showed uncanny and unbelievable foresight by mass producing millions of Elvis' current and previous recordings and merchandise. This is standard practice for an act that is about to go on tour, but the numbers in this case were beyond reasonable expectations. The announcement of Elvis' death caused record sales to skyrocket.
Elvis did other unusual things that created suspicion. First, he fired several employees that he had relied upon for a long time. Also, two days before his alleged death, Elvis telephoned a friend of his named Miss Foster. He told her that he wasn't planning on going on the upcoming tour. She asked him if he had canceled it, and he said that he had not. When she asked if he was ill, he said that he was fine, and that she should not ask any more questions or tell anyone anything, and that she should not believe anything she read. He told her that his troubles would all soon be over, and that he would call her in a few weeks. The author of Elvis Where Are You? writes that Miss Foster took a polygraph test regarding this story, and that she was not lying.
The day after Elvis' alleged death, a woman named Lucy De Barbon, a former lover of Elvis, received a single rose in the mail. The card indicated that the flower was from "El Lancelot." This had been her pet name for Elvis, and it was a name that no one else knew. Flowers can't be sent from beyond the grave. This was Elvis' way of letting her know that he was not dead, even though he didn't want to be found.
Chiro's Book of Numbers.
Elvis had a fascination with numerology, an interest he fed by reading Chiro's Book of Numbers. The theory that Elvis orchestrated his death is further supported when considering the significance of the date of his alleged death. The date in question is August 16, 1977. By adding the numbers in the date, 8, 16, and 1977, you get 2001. This is the title of Elvis' favorite movie in which the hero plans his immortality in the bathroom. Elvis spent a considerable amount of time doing the same: planning his afterlife on the toilet.. Elvis spent so much time in the bathroom that he had his toilet converted into a reclining comfy chair. Coincidentally, the bathroom is also where Elvis' body was reportedly found.
Given Elvis' religious beliefs, he had a fascination with things that come in threes, for example, father, son, and holy ghost. The sum of the digits from his favorite film (2+0+0+1) is three. Let's consider the triad of the repetition of the number 24. 2001 (favorite film) less 1977 (year of death) is 24. The two numbers from the day of death (8/16) when added up equal 24. The sum of the digits in the year of death (1+9+7+7) also equals 24. That is 3 occurrences of the number 24 which is divisible by 3, and when divided by three the result, 8 has a perfect cubed root (2x2x2=8).
Elvis loved numerology, and when you consider the numeric significance of the date of his alleged death, it is clear that if indeed he did plan to fake his death, he could not have chosen a better date.
Reason
Elvis had many reasons to fake his death. It has been said that Elvis' life was in danger. He had recently lost $10,000,000 in an airplane/real estate deal with a California based organization called the "Fraternity" that had links to the Mafia. It is speculated that he corroborated with the government to expose the organized crime ring in exchange for protection, perhaps in the form of a new life and identity compliments of the Witness Protection Program.
Elvis was a prisoner of his own fame. He had many other reasons to leave his life behind. Because of his incredible popularity he recieved several death threats, and he was concerned about the safety of his ex-wife and daughter. Sometimes when he wanted to leave Graceland he would send look-alikes out to distract would be followers. Elvis was also known to ride in the trunk of someone else's car to avoid being seen. Once, when he fell ill in Las Vegas, he couldn't get proper medical attention because the hospital was overwhelmed by fans.
At the time of his alleged death, Elvis thought he was nearing the end of his career. He saw his self as 42 with greying hair, overweight, and he thought his voice was starting to weaken,. He was going down hill, and he was too proud to go out with a whimper. He would never want his fans to see him in such an unhealthy condition.
Elvis had shown a fascination with death on several occasions. In the days leading up to his alleged death he was reported to have visited funeral homes at odd hours of the night with close friends. Was he doing research? Elvis once faked his death by setting up an elaborate shooting in which a would be killer fired blanks at Elvis who had a blood pack which he discharged. It was Elvis' intention to see how the people closest to him would react to his death. Perhaps what he learned convinced him to do it for real.
Finally, one of Elvis' favorite books is the spiritual Autobiography of Yogi. One of the central themes of this book is the relinquishing of one's wealth and earthly possessions to achieve spiritual oneness. Elvis could do this, as well as address his other concerns of sanity and safety by faking his death and living in exile.
Means.
Elvis had the means to fake his own death. He is accused of destroying himself with drugs. In reality, Elvis was a pharmaceutical expert. He took a lot of drugs, but he knew what he was doing and was extremely careful. He knew what drugs he could self-administer to create a deathlike state. Also Elvis' experience with the martial arts was such that he could slow his heart rate and breathing in order to feign death.
Elvis' manager, Colonel Tom Parker, had once created a new identity for himself. He came to America as an illegal immigrant from Holland, but through various connections managed to create a new identity complete with a passport, birth certificate, drivers license, and social security number. He would have known how to give Elvis a second life.
Aswell as Elvis' ties to the government through his testimony against the "Fraternity", Elvis was known to interact with the President of the United States. He was reported in government documents to use the name John Burrows as an alias when he wanted to travel. Some people believe that Elvis worked for the government as a drug agent. He did, after all have extensive contact with many people in the music business who, as we know, tend to dabble in illegal substances. And, of course, we must allow that Elvis' connections to the government gave him access to the Witness Protection Program. If they can turn the Simpsons into the Thompsons, they can relocate anybody.
Orion?
Many believe that Elvis couldn't have given up performing completely. Just imagine, after a while the desire to perform would grow once he started his life in exile. The story of Orion supports the theory that Elvis attempted a secret comeback.
Shortly after Elvis' alleged death, a masked singer by the name of Orion emerged on the scene. He was big like Elvis, and he sang just like Elvis. Because of the mask no one could tell his true identity. One fan described seeing Orion from near the stage. She claims that Orion left the stage between songs, and when he appeared moments later the sweat was gone from his armpits and back and she thought that his costume looked slightly different. After the song he left the stage, and the original Orion returned.
Another fan described how she rushed into a tour bus at an Orion show only to see two Orions in the back of the bus. She claimed that one ducked into the bathroom before she could get a good look at him, but he appeared to look like Elvis Presley.
What's even more remarkable is the fictional story called Orion that was written by Gail Brewer-Georgio about a legendary performer who had several identities and wanted to fake his death. The story was written and submitted to the William Morris Agency for publication consideration after Elvis' alleged death and before the real Orion ever performed. As it turns out, there are many ways in which the real Orion mimicked the events as described in the book. For example, the performers' managers had the same name. Also, without knowing it, Brewer-Georgio wrote of events in Orion that had actually taken place in Elvis' life. It was a case of life imitating art.
Picking up the Pieces.
In 1981, 20/20 did an investigation into the circumstances surrounding the alleged death of Elvis Presley. The investigative report was very convincing. Oddly enough, within two weeks of the report, the singer, Orion, disappeared and was never heard from again. The book, Orion disappeared from shelves across the country. It had been recalled by the publisher which was associated with the William Morris Agency. Incidentally, the William Morris Agency is the same agency that represented Elvis.
It seems that Elvis Presley is worth more dead than alive. By faking his death and relocating with a new identity he is safe from his fans and the "Fraternity", the government can make a solid case against the organized crime ring, and RCA, Elvis' family, and Elvis' management can all reap immense financial benefits from the attention. That is... except for one benefit....after nearly 25 years no one has collected on his life insurance policy.
Why ?????
During his last concert tour in 1977, Elvis spoke of "not looking good tonight", but, he would look good in his coffin. He made comments of being tired of living as he was and how it was going to change. He told of how he would like to be just himself instead of an "image".
On August 16th 1977, at 8:00 A.M., Elvis told Ginger Alden that he was going into the bathroom to read. (This bathroom/lounge had it's own back entrance.) For the next six hours no one saw him. Elvis signed for a special delivery letter at 9:30 A.M. At 2:00 P.M. Ginger Alden found the apparent body of Elvis lying on the floor in front of his chair, where he had been reading. She called Al Strada who in turn called Joe Esposito. George Nichopoulous (aka Dr. Nick) was then telephoned. Joe called the fire department, unit 6. The ambulance arrived at Graceland at 2:33 P.M. Paramedics administered CPR, despite rigor mortis. The body was taken to Baptist Memorial Hospital at 2:48 P.M. By 3:00 P.M. Elvis' family members and friends were informed of his "death". Public announcement was given at 3:30 P.M.
August 17th, the body was brought back to Graceland for family viewing. The public viewing was from 3:00 P.M. to 6:30 P.M. On August 18th,1977. Tennesse Governor Ray Blanton ordered flags to be flown at half-mast for the duration of the funeral procession. At midday the Graceland gates swung open, a white Cadillac hurse rolled through them, followed by sixteen white Cadillac limousines.
QUESTIONS BEGIN
How could it take twenty minutes for paramedics to drive sixteen blocks to Graceland if the call came in at 2:33 P.M.? The Medical Examiner's Report states that the body was found with rigor mortis, while the police report states "unconcious". Why would anyone try to give CPR to a rigor mortised body ? The ME report listed the body as weighing 80 pounds lighter then Elvis' actual weight. How could Elvis have passed a physical exam just prior to August 16th if his heart was so enlarged ? How could he have played raquetball for several hours on August 16th, just before his "death" ?
ABC's 1979 program on the cover up of Elvis' death stated that all the stomach contents were destroyed. Bill Burkin in his book Elvis World states that officials at Babtist Memorial Hospital had assured him that the stomach contents had been shipped to a California lab to be examined and then on to a lab in Utah, and then ? There are rumors of Elvis' "death" being caused by a heart attack, drug overdose, suffocation in carpeting, suicide and even cancer ! Persons in attendance at Graceland at the time of "death" don't agree on the color of pajamas Elvis was wearing or the posistion of the body.
Why did Vernon ask many people NOT to attend the funeral but to come a week later ? Why did Vernon refuse to accept the flag which is usually given to dead war veterans ? Why didn't Elvis have any new jumpsuits made during 1977 ? The handwriting on the death certificate matched Elvis' own writing !
Elvis was very aware of which presribed drugs did not mix well with others. Elvis had glaucoma, and Dexedrine, a drug not to be taken with that condition, was listed as being in his system. Who would prescribe it and why would he take it ? Whose body was autopsied ? Funeral homes don't usually keep solid copper coffins in stock. These coffins weigh in the area of 300 pounds and usually take two months to receive once ordered. This coffin seemed to have been ready.
Monte Nicholson, a nineteen year veteran of the Los Angeles Sheriffs Department, wrote a novel called The Presley Arrangement. This novel tells the story of a body that is autopsied, a man resembling Elvis. The man had died of cancer. The body is later returned for private burial, to the man's own family. The man's family are paid to remain silent about the incident. Nicholson explains a government connection. In a 1989 radio interview Nicholson said that even if he knew there was an FBI connection and was told not to say anything, he COULD NOT say. Nicholson also claimed that if he knew the answer to the question, and says he does, he will not disclose his knowledge. He said that if Elvis is alive that his book is pretty close to the truth of what REALLY happened.
Was Elvis a DEA (Drug Enforcement Agency) agent ? Elvis can be seen wearing a DEA Staff jacket in several photographs, including one taken in June of 1977, approximately six weeks before his "death". Also Elvis was wearing a jogging suit with the DEA logo on it during the early morning hours of August 16th 1977.
When Elvis met with President Richard Nixon he said he had been "studying" the drug culture for over 10 years, he could get into any culture group and be accepted. Elvis said he had gotten alot from the country and he wanted to repay in some way. It would have been a dangerous job and one that an entertainer such as Elvis would not have HAD to do unless he chose to. Many DEA agents pose as "drug users" and "pushers" in their undercover work. Elvis could get to anyone if he appeared to be a "user". In the book Elvis: What Happened? one of the guys wondered if Elvis was ever as whacked out as he seemed to be. Maybe he is a "great" actor after all. Perhaps he deserves an "Oscar".
Death threats were issued against Elvis and his family. Those who had leveled those threats had actually broken into Graceland. At times, the FBI were called. Deputy Narcotics Director John Finlator arranged for Elvis to come to his office under the name of John Burrows. Finlator didn't want to give Elvis a badge but the President reversed the decision.
On December 21st of 1970, Elvis met with President Richard Nixon in the oval office, Washington, D.C. Elvis had written a letter requesting a meeting and expressed his concerns about the drug culture, hippie elements, the SDS and other groups who were against the establishment. When Finlator finally gave Elvis the badge and promised to issue him consultant credentials, Elvis was overcome with emotion and his eyes became misty. Ten days later he met with the FBI. On the same day, President Nixon wrote Elvis a thank you. Elvis wrote to the President and said, "I can and will do more good, if I were made a Federal Agent at large, and I will help out by doing it my way."
Elvis was known to be in his bedroom for weeks, seeing no one. (There was a back staircase at Graceland.) Elvis could sneak out whenever he needed to.
Department of the Treasury-Bob Pritchett says that during the years of '74, '75, and '76 "Mr. Presley provided one of our undercover agents, who was a musician, a job cover. Undercover agents appear to have other occupations. None of Elvis' group of friends knew of this agent and the role he played in setting up his cover. Since he had an undercover agent in his group from '74-'76, when did he find time to use drugs himself? Elvis was very good at keeping secrets and living a "double life".
Elvis spoke with President Carter two weeks before his death. It involved aid to a friend. On August 16, 1977, President Carter issued this tribute:
"Elvis Presley's death deprives our country of a part of itself. He was unique and irreplaceable. More than twenty years ago he burst upon the scene with an impact that was unprecedented and will probably never be equaled. His music and his personality, fusing the styles of white country and black rhythm and blues, permanently changed the face of American popular culture. His following was immense and he was a symbol of good humor of his country."
This was a formal statement, when a celebrity's death is usually only commented on. He had spoken to Nixon and Carter both shortly before the day he died.
In the September 1988 issue of American Karate magazine, Ed Parker tells of a time when a terrorist group threatened Elvis' life to make him an example of how they could get to famous people. They threatened to plant a bomb in one of the gifts offered to Elvis at a concert. This was a threat as long as he was "alive", and his family were targets also.
Elvis always had law enforcement officials around him. John O'Grady, who was earlier in charge of NARC Divisions of the LAPD, was one of them. He also hired Dick Grob, a former sargeant with the Palm Springs Police. He was surrounded by at least two lawmen in top security positions. Elvis was in danger. The "hoax" may have been the only way out! History will prove Elvis to be an American hero beyond being an American entertainer.
SIGHTINGS
With all the Elvis lookalikes, he could actually walk around using disguises and get away with it. Who would be looking for him anyway, when he is supposedly dead? Before 1977, there was an "Elvis lookalike, sound alike" at a Memphis theatre. Elvis put on his best "Elvis outfit", strolled in and mingled with the clones, doing his best "Hey, baby". Afterwards, he came back to Graceland laughing. He tried out and lost!
Elvis and his mother's bodies were moved to the Meditation Gardens for burial, after three men tried to break into the crypt. Graceland was rezoned to permit burials at the estate. In the 1989 Orion's "Farewell to the King", the King says "I died once. I had to be willing to give up everything, even the will to live." The last recording session at Graceland was The Last Farewell.
There have been many sightings at various places including Graceland. There are some escape routes at Graceland that people don't know about.
In a syndicated newspaper across the nation on June 5, 1990, an article headlined "Elvis Lives, At Least On Census Form." The Census Bureau reported in 1990 that Elvis returned a questionaire to the bureau office in Huntsville, Alabama. It was noticed by census workers who were screening forms for completednesss.
Late Night with Ross Shafer (August 1988) had a survey that showed that out of 30,000 people polled, approximately 84% believe Elvis is alive.
On Monday, August 22, 1988, Harold Schuitmaker, in an item of the Detroit News, said "Elvis is Alive and Living in Kalamazoo." Schuitmaker was a well known Michigan politician and resident of Paw Paw (15 miles from Kalamazoo).
The masked singer Orion was at the McMinnville Civic Center and a fan said that she felt that the man onstage and the one who signed autographs were different people. People have reported that someone sounding like Elvis called them on the phone and some hung up because they couldn't believe it.
A book titled Elvis: Where Are You? came out of Wilton Manors, Florida around August, 1982 under the name of Al Jefferies. The premise of the book was that Elvis hoaxed his death. Kelly Burgess, a former assistant editor and feature writer with the Detroit News, claimed to have seen Elvis in Kalamazoo, Michigan. She is not living now.
In 1988, Heartbreak Hotel starred David Keith as Elvis. (The film had the support of EP Enterprises.) A soundtrack album thanked Jerry Schilling and a special thanks to J.B.
In 1987's Robo Cop, a cop is killed, but didn't die. He returns as Robo Cop-a superman hero. It was filmed in Michigan. During that time radio stations got calls from a man sounding like Elvis Presley. There have been lots of sightings there and it was also on his final concert tour. Is this possibly a "message" film?
March 18, 1990, an article on Robo Cop, in the Detroit News told of Robo Cop speaking to a Boys and Girls club against drugs. It was a three month long anti-drug campaign organized by the FBI, Orion Home Video of New York, and the Boys Club of America. This Robo Cop was not the same actor as in the movie-his true identity was not revealed. he was a special agent helping the FBI fight the war on drugs. His suit was bullet-proof. During filming, some people saw a man looking like an older Elvis.
In Mac and Me, a film from 1988, a young alien is lost and at the end the family drives away in an old pink Cadillac convertible. A balloon caption says "We'll be back". The sound track is on Curb Records, which is the same label as "Spelling on the Stone". There were some song lyrics which were: "Tired of being myself, being different from everyone else, somehow you knew I needed your help, be my friend forever. I never found my star in the night; living my dream was far from sight." There was a scene in the movie where Eric asks Debbie "Why didn't you tell him that you saw him (the alien)?" She says, "Because no one would believe me."
Elvis has become a mythic figure, and there have been frequent rumors that he is still alive. Elvis remains the single most influential and respected figure in the history of Rock music. Elvis was the first Rock/Pop singer to have a single record sell a million copies, the first to go platinum with an album in less than two weeks, the first singer to pre-sell a million records before it's release, the first entertainer to earn a million dollars for one concert performance, and the first young, white, southern male to bring international attention to the importance of black rhythm and blues. He was the first singer to get a million dollar screen contract. He was the first music personality to have a TV performance broadcast worldwide via satellite.
In 1993, he became the first rock'n'roll star whose picture appeared on a commemorative U.S. Postal stamp (the largest stamp printing in history). Elvis is a landmark in almost everyone's life, going back to distant memories of watching him above the waist on Ed Sullivan or hearing "Hound Dog" for the first time. His image continues to mesmerize: witness the appearance of 200 Elvis impersonators at Liberty Weekend in 1986.
There was a time when he was merely the most popular entertainer in history. He is more than that now. He is a symbol of America as recognizable as the flag. Elvis opened the 'window of his soul' to his fans all over the world.
Thank you, Elvis! Remember you are always on our minds. "TCB FOREVER!

moreResolved Question: Have you ever had an Estate Sale?
I know that most estate sales are done due to family members who have passed, but I also know they are held in order to clear out homes of those that are still very much alive and have become "pack-rats" over the years. Case in point.......my elderly mother. We are trying to get many things in her home sold so we can sell her home and get her in an assisted living place. I have contacted some estate sale companies and actually found one that seems quite on the ball, been in business for many years and even takes credit cards from the shoppers and I haven't found any that did that. Their percentage they take is 35%..but they do ALL the work along with after-work like auctions and ebay. My brother thinks its a rip-off. My mother lives in a HUGE house and has LOTS of stuff from collectibles, furniture and way to much to even list here. We are in Michigan any suggestions???
1.) Ever have one?
2.) Any places/companies you'd recommend
3.) Ideas/help/suggestions.

moreResolved Question: Was the Reagan Administration the most corrupt ever?
Ronald Reagan's Criminal Administration:
"By the end of his term, 138 Reagan administration officials had been convicted, had been indicted, or had been the subject of official investigations for official misconduct and/or criminal violations. In terms of number of officials involved, the record of his administration was the worst ever."
James Watt, Reagan's Secretary of the Interior was indicted on 41 felony counts for using connections at the Department of Housing and Urban Development to help his private clients seek federal funds for housing projects in Maryland, New Jersey, Massachusetts, Puerto Rico and the Virgin Islands. Watt conceded that he had received $500,000 from clients who were granted very favorable housing contracts after he had intervened on their behalf. In testifying before a House committee Watt said: "That's what they offered and it sounded like a lot of money to me, and we settled on it." Watt was eventually sentenced to five years in prison and 500 hours of community service.
Although not convicted, Edwin Meese III, resigned as Reagan's Attorney General after having been the subject of investigations by the United States Office of the Independent Counsel on two occasions (Wedtech and Iran-Contra), during the 3 short years he was in office.
E. Bob Wallach, close friend and law classmate of Attorney General Edwin Meese, was sentenced to six years in prison and fined $250,000 in connection with the Wedtech influence-peddling scandal.
Lyn Nofziger--Convicted on charges of illegal lobbying of White House in Wedtech scandal.
Michael Deaver received three years' probation and was fined one hundred thousand dollars after being convicted for lying to a congressional subcommittee and a federal grand jury about his lobbying activities after leaving the White House.
The Iran-Contra scandal. In June, 1984, at a National Security Council meeting, CIA Director Casey urged President Reagan to seek third-party aid for the Nicaraguan contras. Secretary of State Schultz warned that it would be an "impeachable offense" if the U.S. government acted as conduit for such secret funding. But that didn't stop them. That same day, Oliver North was seeking third-party aid for the contras. But Reagan, the "teflon President" avoided serious charges or impeachment.
Casper Weinberger was Secretary of Defense during Iran-Contra. In June 1992 he was indicted by a federal grand jury on charges of concealing from congressional investigators and prosecutors thousands of pages of his handwritten notes. The personal memoirs taken during high level meetings, detailed events in 1985 and 1986 involving the Iran-Contra affair. Weinberger claimed he was being unfairly prosecuted because he would not provide information incriminating Ronald Reagan. Weinberger was scheduled to go on trial January 5, 1993, where the contents of his notes would have come to light and may have implicated other, unindicted conspirators. While Weinberger was never directly linked to the covert operations phase of the Iran-Contra affair, he is believed to have been involved in the cover-up of the ensuing scandal. According to Special Prosecutor Lawrence Walsh, Weinberger's notes contain evidence of a conspiracy among the highest ranking Reagan Administration officials to lie to congress and the American public. Some of the notes are believed to have evidence against then Vice-President George Bush who pardoned Weinberger to keep him from going to trial.
Raymond Donovan, Secretary of Labor indicted for defrauding the New York City Transit Authority of $7.4. million.
{ Republicans will point out that Donovan was acquitted. And that really matters in Donovan's case, because he was a Republican. But it didn't matter for Clinton or any of his cabinet, most all of whom were acquitted, because they were Democrats!}
Elliott Abrams was appointed by President Reagan in 1985 to head the State Department's Latin American Bureau. He was closely linked with ex-White House aide Lt. Col. Oliver North's covert movement to aid the Contras. Working for North, Abrams coordinated inter-agency support for the contras and helped solicit illegal funding from foreign powers as well as domestic contributors. Abrams agreed to cooperate with Iran-Contra investigators and pled guilty to two charges reduced to misdemeanors. He was sentenced in 1991 to two years probation and 100 hours of community service but was pardoned by President George Bush.
Robert C. McFarlane was appointed Ronald Reagan's National Security Advisor in October 1983 and become well-known as a champion of the MX missile program in his role as White House liaison to congress. In 1984, Mc Farlane initiated the review of U.S. policy towards Iran that led directly to the arms for hostages deal. He also supervised early National Security Council efforts to support the Contras. Shortly after the Iran-Contra scandal was revealed in early 1987, McFarlane took an overdose of the tranquilizer Valium in an attempt to end his life. In his own words: "What really drove me to despair was a sense of having failed the country." McFarlane pled guilty to four misdemeanors and was sentenced to two years probation and 200 hours of community service. He was also fined $20,000. He received a blanket pardon from President George Bush.
Oliver North--Convicted of falsifying and destroying documents, accepting an illegal gratuity, and aiding and abetting the obstruction of Congress. Conviction overturned on appeal due to legal technicalities.
John Poindexter, Reagan's national security advisor, --guilty of five criminal counts involving conspiracy to mislead Congress, obstructing congressional inquiries, lying to lawmakers, used "high national security" to mask deceit and wrong-doing.
Richard Secord pleaded guilty to a felony charge of lying to Congress over Iran-Contra.
Alan D. Fiers was the Chief of the Central Intelligence Agency's Central American Task Force. Fiers pled guilty in 1991 to two counts of withholding information from congress about Oliver North's activities and the diversion of Iran arms sale money to aid the Contras. He was sentenced to one year of probation and 100 hours of community service. Fiers agreed to cooperate with prosecutors in exchange for having his felonies reduced to misdemeanors and his testimony gave a boost to the long standing criminal investigation of Lawrence Walsh, Special Prosecutor. Fiers testified that he and three CIA colleagues knew by mid-1986 that profits from the TOW and HAWK missile sales to Iran were being diverted to the Contras months before it became public knowledge. Alan Fiers received a blanket pardon for his crimes from President Bush.
Clair George was Chief of the CIA's Division of Covert Operations under President Reagan. In August 1992 a hung jury led U.S. District Judge Royce Lamberth to declare a mistrial in the case of Clair George who was accused of concealing from Congress his knowledge of the Iran-Contra affair. George had been named by Alan Fiers when Fiers turned state's evidence for Lawrence Walsh's investigation. In a second trial on charges of perjury, false statements and obstruction of justice, George was convicted of lying to two congressional committees in 1986. George faced a maximum five year federal prison sentence and a $20,000 fine for each of the two convictions. Jurors cleared George of five other charges including two counts of lying to a federal grand jury. Those charges would have carried a mandatory 10 months in prison upon conviction. Clair George received a blanket pardon for his crimes from President George Bush.
Duane R. (Dewey) Clarridge was head of the CIA's Western European Division under President Reagan. He was indicted on November 29, 1991 for lying to congress and to the Tower Commission that investigated Iran- Contra. Clarridge was charged with five counts of perjury and two counts of making false statements for covering up his knowledge of a November 25, 1985 shipment of HAWK missiles to Iran. Clarridge was also suspected of diverting to the Contras weapons that were originally intended for the Afghan mujahaddeen guerrillas. Clarridge received a blanket pardon for his crimes on Christmas Eve 1992 from President George Bush.
Environmental Protection Agency's favoritism toward polluters. Assistant administrator unduly influenced by chemical industry lobbyists. Another administrator resigned after pressuring employees to tone down a critical report on a chemical company accused of illegal pollution in Michigan. The deputy chief of federal activities was accused of compiling an interagency "hit" or "enemies" list, like those kept in the Nixon Watergate period, singling out career employees to be hired, fired or promoted according to political beliefs.
Anne Gorscuh Burford resigned amid accusations she politically manipulated the Superfund money.
Rita Lavelle was fired after accusing a senior EPA official of "systematically alienating the business community." She was later indicted, tried and convicted of lying to Congress and served three months of a six-month prison sentence. After an extensive investigation, in August 1984, a House of Representatives subcommittee concluded that top-level EPA appointees by Reagan for three years "violated their public trust by disregarding the public health and the environment, manipulating the Superfund program for political purposes, engaging in unethical conduct and participating in other abuses.".
Neglected nuclear safety. A critical situation involving nuclear safety had been allowed to develop during the Reagan era. Immense sums, estimated at 200 billion or more, would be required in the 1990s to replace and make safe America's neglected, aging, deteriorating, and dangerous nuclear facilities.
Savings & Loan Bail-out. Hundreds of billions of dollars were needed to bail out savings and loan institutions that either had failed during the deregulation frenzy of the eighties or were in danger of bankruptcy.
